Added a ceiling fan light switch to the overhead so I can select the different sets of lights. I like it not so bright in the mornings. Or even a nice mood in the evening. Lots of extra space in that overhead section.

Are those notes on the glass switch door your "honey do" list? (I took the door off).

Those are phone numbers and addresses for us in case the kids need to get a hold of us in an emergency. We always hang a new note card with the RV Park address also, in the event police or fire departments need to be contacted. We do run drills and discuss emergencies every so often. Ideally, there is no thinking involved if an emergency happens, steps happen without thought.

In our stick and brick, we painted a wall near the fridge as a chalkboard. It has notes for the kids (chores, etc) for after school. Gets updated daily.

We keep too much junk in there to take the door off also. The Directv DVR and air bridge are behind the TV velcroed to the wall.

Baggage compartment locks

My Tiffin Breeze came so well equipped that I have had a hard time coming up with something I would like to mod. How many times have you tried to open your locked baggage compartments? I have lost count. My solution was to add automotive type electric door locks to my baggage compartments.

If you have this type of compartment latches (I believe they are called “slam lock” type), it is a relatively simple mod. This mod will let you unlock/lock your doors both electrically or with the key.
The parts I used for this mod are:
Actuators
A double pole, double throw switch (spring loaded to off in center position) Radio Shack P/N: 275-0709
Wire and splices.
First I removed the inside cover for the latch mechanism.

Then remove the steel backing plate.

Drill a hole in the horizontal locking mechanism slightly larger than the linkage rod that comes with the locking actuators.

Bend a “Z” shaped bend in the end of the linkage rod (just like some linkage on carburetors) very close to the end of rod….. Too far from end of rod and it might interfere with the lock working properly, I had to trim this rod end because it was too long and interfered.

Continued in part 2 due to lack of picture space.....

Install linkage through the actuator and then install linkage into the hole you drilled in lock mechanism.

Before drilling any holes in the baggage door, do an operational test to be sure you locate the actuator in the exact spot needed to give you full throw of actuator rod, I used aluminum duct tape to hold it in place during my op check.

After you are satisfied with the position of actuator, match drill your actuator mount holes and mount in place, I used #8x2” sheet metal screws for mounting.

Reinstall your metal backing plate and again op check to be sure there is no interference.
Position the inside lock cover and mark where the actuating rod is, then notch the cover for clearance around rod and install the cover.
Run wiring between each of your locking actuators making sure you have the correct polarity for each. If you mix up the polarity, you will have some locks opening while others are locking.
Mount your control switch and attach wiring.

baggage compartment locks part 3

a few more pictures. By the way, I installed 10 of these in just under an hour but the wiring took about 4 hours because the Tiffin is so well built, I had a hard time finding ways to run wire. Only compartment that I couldn't do this to was the external TV because it has a different lock.

That sir, is pretty cool. One of the best mods in a while. Tiffin's are tough to beat. No Dutchmen though (LOL).

Rusty,
I think this mod paid for itself last trip the first night that I laid down in bed and thought to my self did I lock the basement? Didn't even have to get dressed again... just hit the switch!

You make it down here to FL yet?

Arrived in Florida today. Easy trip with zero issues. I subscribe to the 3:30 rule. 3:30pm, or 330 miles; whatever comes first. I have six months of regular maintenance issues that I need to jump on, so it will be a busy week or two setting up.

Glad you made it in one piece!

I have some friends that stop by a couple of times a year coming and going. He is 75 and his rule is 300 miles/6 hours. They just came through over Labor Day headed home. They had been on the road since April. Went up through Alaska and part of Canada and were working their way back down the east coast.

I am going to follow something similar as we start traveling further afield. So far our longest trek is to 4 Paws Kingdom it is a bit over 200 miles and takes about 4 hours with all the pee stops. We also try to avoid interstates and rush hours.

Changed the swing on bathroom door of my 3805.
The existing operation required you to go down steps from bed room to enter bathroom.
It works much safer now
Very simple only had to flip hinges the door handle and latch remained same. I added a third hinge to cover old strike plate hole and black putty in in hinge holes. Drilled hole for strike plate. Done

Ditto on swapping the the door on my 3805. I got rid of the cheesy backsplashes behind the stove and in the front bathroom. Also upgraded the bathroom faucets to Moen

Tapped power for USB devices at each nightstand. Quick, 30 minute job. Just need to get some black screwheads.

Awesome mod! I read this yesterday and made the mod myself after work last night. 30 minutes and it was done. We were always worried about falling on the stairs in the middle of the night going to the bathroom because you had to drop down the stairs to get the door open. The third hinge goes on tonight and we'll be done. Thanks for the idea!
