Does this model refrigerator need to have propane on in order for it to run on battery while hauling?

Typically the answer is yes, the propane needs to be "ON" for the refer to work while pulling.

The Nocold N611v uses 120 volts AC with 12v DC for controls
or it uses propane with 12vDC for controls.

It does not run on 12 volts DC only.
