I’ve got a 2024 3500 Denali ultimate, seems to be getting about 10-12 towing a 2021 grand design solitude-S (38’).

I seem to get around 10-11 with my 2017 Ram diesel and 16,000 pound loaded trailer. I think with a gasser you will be 7-8 with any decent sized trailer and a couple better with a diesel. The diesel will cost about $10k more to purchase and maintenance is much more costly so lots of towing needed to offset the higher cost. What you will gain is better towing capacity and likely more range..

If I didn’t have such a heavy trailer I would prefer a gasser for the reasons above.

I have a 2005 Ford F250 6.0 diesel and towing I get 9 - 11 MPG.

Fuel prices are the least of my expenses and am happy to have a reliable vehicle that I maintain and does not break down and tows up hill without significant EGT.
