we have a 2500 crew cab short bed with a Cummins 6 cylinder,, love the engine, with a manual 6 speed, and a 34 foot bumper pull trailer,, 37 to the tongue,, do I wish for a 1 ton,, sure,, now with new knees I wish for an automatic... if you have the means, bigger is sometimes better....

Thanks for being safety conscious.

We were originally going to buy a 28' RAGEN toy hauler, then we set our minds on a 39' Voltage and assumed the 2500 specs on the RAM website were satisfactory.

Stepping into the 40' toy hauler range is huge leap. If you are serious about it, get ready for a dually, increased costs and supplemental commercial registration as CA GVWR greater than 26k total requires a supplemental. I am going to begin some classes to obtain a non commercial RV license as well. The "old time" RVers in our neighborhood have sworn by this process as the additional training and bigger truck will make the longer trips less stressful along with added confidence and safety. I have heard a couple people talk of Highway Patrol officers taking families on a "field trip" to the CAT scales.

we are really enjoying our Voltage and the whole camping lifestyle so far...
once the hitch is installed in the truck I'll get a photo.
