Awning tore

My awning was getting bad and tore today. I cut the awning off the trailer and roller. The awning is electric extend and retract, will I be able to push it up against the camper and have it stay or will I need to take the arms off?

You would need to strap the arms together to stop the arms from extending on their own. I purchased a replacement awning from the original awning manufacturer and had it shipped to my home for under $350. installed it myself in about 2 hours, however a second person would have been very helpful.
