Will the P rated tires on my truck be alright?
As many of you know I just joined the forum and have already asked about the Akuret trailer tires on the trailer. Anyway it got me thinking the other day about the truck tires. It's a half ton so of course P rated tires on it from the factory. I am pulling a 29' travel trailer with an unloaded hitch weight of 925#.
Are those P rated tires gonna cut it or should I be looking into LTs right away?
Talked to dealer and a tire dealer and both said the P rated tires will hold everything the truck was designed for but they are likely to shimmy around especially in a windy situation. Said LTs would be better for that but would be a harsher ride especially if I go to load range E's. What do you guys think? I have only pulled it home from dealer but it was already really windy that day so I don't what it's like without the wind. Also would LT-C's be better than the P's. It looks like the P's have a higher weight rating but P's also have to be downrated on a truck and the C's are 6 ply vs 4 ply.
Don't know what to do. Truck is also my wife's daily driver so don't want to totally ruin the ride but safety is more important than ride comfort.
