Oven really necessary?
Was looking at a few of the smaller Kodiak Cub models. Many don’t include an oven, which got me thinking. Does anyone really use their oven that often? Ours bakes funny and even after adding a very nice baking stone, cooking in it is still squirrelly. I am wondering if most RV cooking is done in stove top, microwave, fire pit, or Dutch oven.
Thoughts? I’d love to hear if someone is using their RV oven a ton, and what they are baking in it.

Mostly we use it for frozen pizzas, and as you say, it can be "squirrely." However, I have done a turkey breast in a pan a couple of times, and it's always wonderful. Live and learn!

Being full-time, I use mine quite often. That said... for the 2 years before I sold the house, I used it very little (if any).

We use ours fairly often. Personal pizzas with the grandkids are especially good. It does cook differently than an electric oven but doesn't take too long to learn how to use it properly.
My wife makes cinnamon buns in ours. That alone makes it worthwhile!

I use it for cornbread. Everything else is on the grill.

The new ovens are infinitely better than the older models; stays lit, cooks more evenly, etc., but still not a necessity. Look at upgrading your microwave to a convection. Bakes, browns, and most everything else, plus it doesn't heat up the RV as much.

Oven
My wife uses ours all the time and would kill me if we didn’t have one. Hot biscuits, tailgating foods, food for bad weather. etc...

No gas oven on my current rig. My bride still has to learn how to use a convection oven...
We actually do most of our cooking outside on a variety of appliances. We do grilling, camp dutch oven and we have a Camp Chef oven that gets hauled along on some trips. I actually prefer cooking in the DO and over charcoal. We do plan for some microwave stuff if the weather is totally abysmal.

I've used ours quite a bit. I've baked chicken and pork tenderloin with an occasional batch of cookies in ours. It is kind of a pain to get down on my knees to light the pilot light though.

Most new RVs don't come with an oven. We have an oven that is rarely used. Convection/microwave is the way to go these days.

Us usually use either the stove top, a crockpot or InstaPot. Our R-Vision had a micro/convection combo that worked very well. Miss it.

It does not matter what others do. You decide if you need an oven based on your own cooking. I do not need one, but my wife does the cooking and she does.

Thanks Wanderer. Pizzas, as many have mentioned, do sound good but we haven't tried it yet. We have tried cookies many times and always burns bottoms/edges, middle still dough. And sets off the fire alarm too. You mentioned about learning to use them properly? What do you mean? What sort of adjustments are people generally making using these propane ovens? Temperature? Time? etc.? Thanks.

Agreed and understood. But since nearly all RVs come with ovens except for the smaller ones, and given the trouble we've had cooking in ours, I was curious to know what other folks were doing/finding. We are not huge cooks, and most of our cooking would be done in stove top, microwave, or outdoor. I am thinking cookies or pizzas for now (not too healthy), but perhaps other ideas will bubble up. Our oven is so dang small...no turkeys. MAYBE a cornish game hen. haha

We own a 2018 Kodiak Cub 185MB. We purchased a larger toaster oven on Amazon, keep it under the bed when not in use. Have not missed a regular oven at all.

I have only ever used mine once which was to heat up a casserole. Usually I use my air fryer for most things I would cook in an oven at home!

With climate change, it's always to hot to use an oven. We use the outdoors for our kitchen when serious cooking is needed.

While traveling, we have used the oven alot in all 4 RV's we have owned. Everything from pizza to lasagna, casseroles to biscuits. When we park, most cooking is done outside unless we are forced inside.
