Eg4 All in one install

Has anyone installed the EG4 6.5kw 48V all in one system in their RV? Needing any assistance that can be provided. Adding 2 48v 100ah batteries. Wondering if I should leave the original 12v system in place and use the new system as a supplement and pass through it. That way my original inverter charges the 12v battery and I can use that for the leveling system.

I have not installed such a system.

Of course, a voltage converter from 48 to 12 volts is required.

Normally an existing 12 volt RV system can continue to be operated as long as it is connected to the 12 volt side of a converter.

Note: Older models of inverter/chargers may not work well without a 12 volt battery attached. Most modern ones will do fine.

Also note that the proposed system consumes 30 watts when idling (so all night). A 48 volt to 12 volt converter would consume more.

All that said, there could be other issues depending on exact system components.

48 volt to 12 volt converter .

Have you considered ditching the 12 volt battery?

I have a 24 volt system and ditched the 12. Volt battery and put in a 70 amp dc to dc converter.

Runs my leveling jacks and slide outs fine. They pull 50 amps on the 12 volt side. This also powers my breakaway brakes just fine.

Among many reasons for me not goi g to 48 volts, I could not find a 48 volt to 12 volt 70 amp converter from a Reputable dealer.

I would love to get rid of the 12v system and shed some extra weight. Just was not sure the 48-12v step down would still run the leveling system well enough with just the stepdown. Also would that be able to crank the generator? My thought process is to run the line out from the transfer switch to the line in on the inverter/converter Then send it on out to main panel. Basically plugging it in the line out of junction box. That would transfer if power is coming from main power or gen power. Not sure if that makes any sense.

New to this so I appreciate any and all input. If I sound ignorant of what you are telling me, I apologize but I am. But I’m willing to learn what I need to do. I installed a unit on my TT just before selling it but it was a 12 v system. I’ve seen others install this and just run their 50 amp plug to the linverter/converter and use as a stand alone. That is an option but would love to get rid of the 12v battery.

One other thing is there a DC to dc charging system from being hooked up to the 7 pin on the truck? Would that interfere with anything being fed into a 48v system?

Thanks for the advice.

leave the 12v battery in place

When you have a built-in generator, you need to leave at least one 12v battery in place. That will ensure you have enough 12v power for generator start, jacks etc.

I presume the EG4 has a built-in charger and transfer switch. This allows you to wire the EG4 between the coach's built-in transfer switch and your circuit breaker panel. Therefore the EG4 will power your converter, which will keep your 12V battery charged.

Don't worry about trying to charge from the standard 7-way plug, you will get so little power compared to your large system that it is not worth the effort.

There are a thousand details that you have not made clear, but this is a general overview how to wire an all-in-one into an RV
