I know that someone did a post on this not long ago...but I can't seem to find it...so I'm just posting my project.
Here's a pic of where I started. The Schrader valve has 1/4" NPT threads, but the female threaded portion is down below the exterior steel plate:
For me, crawling up into the bed to check the pressure is a PITA, as I have to get a short ladder just to get up into the bed, and then have to figure out how to get my foot on the top of the ladder to get back down. Yeah, I'm half-sighted and have to depth perception.
So read in the earlier post that a gauge would allow me to see the pressure at any time, and that I should leave home with 100 psi in the Trail Air and adjust from there. I believe the earlier post said to use a liquid filled gauge, so I did. But I wanted something tough... here is my parts list so that others that want to do the project will know what to get and where I got them:
As a starter, I carry a PowerTank set up in my Polaris RZR in case of tire damage...works fantastic...helping other people so far...LOL!!!!
Glycerin filled gauge:
PowerTank PN GAU-0160L-S 2.5" Dia. 0-160 PSI Liquid Filled-S. 1/8" Lower. Yellow Face. TIG gauge, red pointer Price $30.00 Can be ordered at PowerTank.com
Fittings from my local Ace Hardware:
Pipe Tee 1/4" FPT BRS $7.49
Hex Bushing 1/4X1/8 BRS $3.49
Nipple 1/4"X1 1/2" BRS $7.49
Street Elbow 45 deg 1/4" BRS $3.99
I cleaned up the threads on the OEM Schrader and re-used it.
Here's the finished project, visible in the rear view mirror and I can adjust pressure standing on the ground: I like that!
