Personally I try to buy as much American made as possible. I know what your saying about the china made crap. It is a shame that crap is allowed to come into this country.

I'm with ya brother, but it's getting harder to find Made in America products.

I had an RV salesman try to tell what great quality and value a particular camper was, he even pointed out that this one came with Goodyear tires Made in America. His faced turned beet red when I pointed out the Made in China markings.

Didn't buy a camper from him.

A lot of good discussion on tires here. I am pretty ignorant when it comes to that but have been researching and learning a lot. Came across this information sheet put out by Carlisle. An interesting read, so I thought I would share it.

Lots of good info it's too bad the article isn't dated. I would agree when our ST tires were made in NA, I not so sure that most of the off shore tires are made to the standards stated.

It's hard to find an ST made in China, that is built to the standards stated in the document but not impossible and the RV manufacturers don't give a rats a$$ about what they put on the rig as long as it gets sold. Have a tire blow and rip your fenders off, their answer is take it up with the tire manufacturer.

When you are shopping for tires and you want to stay with ST tires take the document all and refer to it when selecting replacement tires.

Last set of tires I bought, I only had a choice between two Chinesse tires, one you could almost stick your finger through the sidewall the other negligable deflection.

I've traveled approximately 15,000 miles and have some wear on all four tires. I've done ok with my Akurate tires. I've also, been very apprehensive about the possibility of a blowout at any time.
A Voltage owner on this forum has installed a set of G rated Gladiator tires. I appreciate his research. I've ordered a set from my local commercial truck tire shop. They stock them in their warehouse.
I've also, ordered new chrome axle caps and chrome wheel nuts through Amazon.

I'm sure happy with my Gladiator G 14 plys. For around $200 each they're a well built high quality tire that completely changed the way our 3605 pulls and handles in the wind. My local Firestone dealer pointed me towards them, said he has sold a lot of these with no complaints and now keeps them in stock. Worth checking out.

You have done well with your Akurates.

It seems like the Gladiators are growing in popularity, that's what I when with last year when I was on the east coast. I had never seen any about them on any of the forums to that point, but they passed my sidewall deflection test, so I went with them.

The guys at the tire shop told me that the Gladiator is one of the best selling tires for the commercial/delivery guys. I started looking at the tires on delivery vans and sure enough I was seeing them in that application, anyone that I spoke with about them were happy with the wear they were getting.

I will most likely need a new set next year and I will be going back to Gladiator and stay with them until they prove me wrong.

My Akurate tires were junk. One of them blew after ~3k miles. pure trash and according to Dutchmen if I want to pursue a court case I have to go after the manufacturer of the tire, good luck with this Chinese trash. Want proof? check out my avatar.

Once I read your thread about your tire blowing that was the last straw for me.

I'd been thinking about changing them..........now I'm doin' it.

I went with different 16's as well. I had the dealer take it too Discount Tire before I showed up for PDI. Tackmaster 235/85/16. 4200lb with a 87mph rating tire. So far with a tic over 4000mi on them this year. Loaded, my axles are a hair under 5000lbs each . The 3000lb cushion makes me feel at ease a bit. I lalso have the 507 TPMS. I find it interesting watching temps and pressures while traveling. Amazing the different tire temps from the sun side of the unit to the shade side Time will tell but so far I am pleased with them.

Fanboy did you mean taskmaster tires? We just put then on our 3895. Recommended by our tire shop in town. Keep us posted if you have any problems. We will do the same.

OK....I've read this thread about a dozen times and have decided to order 17.5 rims and Continental tires. Since there hasn't been a post on this for about 6 months - just wondering if anyone has any positive/negative comments about the 17.5s that you've installed.

Also curious how you jacked the coach up to R&R tires and rims.

I have the Continentals and couldn't be happier. First thing you will notice is the difference in the heft over the stockers. Going down the road is smoother, more stable and less bounce. I truly knew I made the right choice the first time I backed into my driveway - a maneuver that requires a nearly 90 degree turn backing up. In the mirror I noticed ZERO sidewall flex! I used my bottle jack and air gun and did one tire at a time - took about an hour. NO REGRETS!

I don't have Continentals have Hankooks. I switched out back a couple of years ago on my Teton. When I got my Voltage I then switched the 17.5 from the Teton to the Voltage. Had my air bottle jack for one & regular bottle jack for the other + air gun. Between the two trailers I have 6-7,000 miles on them with NO problem. I should have done it way sooner on my Teton.

Are you guys jacking up trailer at axels, or frame rail when changing tire assembly ?
