Looking as though I may order mine this week. I suffered two blowouts on my Sunnybrook (minor damage) but the father in law had one that was pretty catastropic - he was running the 614's but they were old - trailer tire life is only 5-7 years so just another excuse to use the piss out of your rig!

17.5 inch wheels and tires.

Wondering where in Michigan to purchase the 17.5 wheels and tires combo needed for replacement of the China bombs supplied from Dutchman? Going to make some phone calls Monday morning for availability and pricing. Would like to get them A.S.A.P.
Any suggestions on what to do with the old ones?? Probably post them on Craigslist , someone with a farm trailer or landscape equipment might need them . I drive over 70 mph and load down the toy hauler heavy , don't need to push my luck and farther on poorly rated tires. Roughly 5000 miles and one full season , finished pushing my luck.

Good year 17.5 inch $$

Wow I had no idea the Goodyear 17.5 tires were so expensive.I am getting heart burn just thinking of buying six at 480$ each, plus wheels for 225$ each.I need to rethink this 16 inch Carlisle program again. I joke with friends when they are making a purchase , don't be cheap ! What to do?

That last set of tires looks like axle is in bind or bent, what's up with that?

If you go to 17.5" tires you want 215/75/17.5 which are 30.4" tall compared to stock 235/80/16 at 30.6", the 235/75/17.5 are a 1" taller, just ensure you have enough space at full compression for this, this is one of the reasons I did not go the 235/85/16 route.

Let me know what you find out - $4,100 is a tough pill to swallow...

Just checking out Trailer-Wheels.com and found 6 17.5 tires and wheels for little over $2500. What do you think?

BnTinNV, I would check your local commercial tire dealer, I am paying 289 per tire or 1734 for six.

Picture was taken in a parking lot making a turn. I was just posting a picture to show how soft the side wall of the China bombs were and axle wrap up also. You can see behind the last wheel there are black skid marks from dragging . Can't imagine the loads tire see on an off ramp on the express way.

Bite the bullet $ wise & switch to 17.5.
What is the advantage of the 17.5" over say a 16"?

Load range f , almost 1000 lbs per tire. I have read so many forums and chats about this subject that my conclusion is that many 5th wheels are blowing all types of 16 tires that the fix is going with 17.5 wheels for the security of higher load rating.problem with some rims is they are rated at 110 psi. Alot of tires require 125psi. Alcoa rims are costly and problems with length on studs become an issue.

Can you explain the "length on studs" issue?

The alcoa rims are thicker, longer studs needed on the hubs to fasten correctly.

So they will mount tires on rims and ship all together ready to mount on the trailer?

EDIT: I emailed them and they emailed right back! They do mount and balance.

I ran Geostars on my Teton but they failed after a couple of years. I don't believe the problem to be so much tires made in China as it's 16" tires. I lost all five OEM Goodyears that were 14 plys 16" tires. Once I went to 17.5 even a Hankook my problems were over!!
