Lippert slide out drive repair

Our 2012 Aspen Trail 2910RLS has developed a problem with the slide out drive. The slide went back in just fine last time but apparently it hit one of our recliners and may have caused a binding situation. The motor still runs when you hit the switch but it has a fast ratcheting sound like its slipping on a shear pin or maybe a gear. It will not try to move either in or out.

After some research yesterday I found this is a Lippert rack and pinion system but so far I am not finding any other information about shear pins or repair ideas. All sites so far say take it to a dealer. Well, that ain't likely since I've seen what dealers around here are capable of. It's a simple fix or replace issue but I was hoping someone here might have information on this part or have experienced something similar. I will start disassembly as soon as the weather here allows but I'm looking for preliminary information first.

Sounds to me like you stripped a few teeth off the gear. Shear pins are usually easy to get, going by my past experience. Knowing the size is the key. Have you looked etrailer

Turns out the system was just in a bit of a bind. I used the hand crank to extend the slide out a few inches then back in. After that it worked like normal. So I learned something new and all is well.

I found this video to be very informative on the Lippert slide outs.
