Coleman Lantern Cap Damage

We have a Coleman Lantern 2017.
We bought it used and after a year noticed some front end discoloration on the cap.

Inside the camper still had the new smell.

We had a guy who does auto body painting look at it and he did some polishing on the cap which seemed to help through that summer , but upon uncovering it the next spring the discoloration had returned. If you look at the photo it looks like the paint is splotchy and peeling. It wasn't. The camper cap surface was as smooth as could be, it was under the clear coat.

After some research on the net we found instances where people disclosed that the cap had discolored due to lack of UV material being added to the paint color under the clear coat.

We visited a decal/vinyl shop in search of someone to come up with a decal to cover the damage since the camper was out of warranty.

He directed us to a "vinyl wrap" business.

Goodness me!!. It was the answer to our problem. The color is spot on and the young man who did it told us about several trailers in the community he had done and 5 years out the wrap on those is still looking excellent.

Just a head's up for anyone who had this problem. We found one other owner and he had the cap repainted, but they did not put the sticker back on.

Looks great!
I see quite a few faded front caps in our storage lot.
Did you get a new Coleman sticker or did he work around the existing one?
Do you mind sharing ballpark cost?

I also replaced my front with Vinyl and a sticker, I got the sticker from EBAY for less than $30.00 ( very nice sticker, like original)

https://www.ebay.com/itm/COLEMAN-DUT...72.m2749.l2649

I paid about $200 for the vinyl and $200 to have the vinyl installed.
but was able to have it put on in my storage location , unlike painting.

before and after pictures are in my gallery

This was a great tip as I had the same issue on the cap of my 2018 Coleman Light 1805RB. Picked it up today and it's beautiful again!

The wrap owner designed it within the wrap application. It is the same process used for advertising on trailers or on racing cars. The “ sticker” is within the design.

No I don’t mind sharing the cost. I just can’t remember. I think it was $500
The price was cheaper than the vinyl we were quoted due to us wanting the vinyl replaced without a seam down the front.
The vinyl people in our area were not very enthusiastic about working with it due to the curve in the cap.
The wrap business apparently deals with unusual curves all the time. 😁
I’ll check on the price when my husband gets home.
We did have the entire front covered, not just the damaged area. The color match was near perfect and all details were included ( swooshes).

Mine was $600 which included the swoosh and the new Coleman graphic. I do have a seam unfortunately but It's not overwhelming noticeable. I'll take the seam over the splotchy and weathered cap
