Question Kayak Hauling Question

Howdy,

Picking up our new kayak on Thursday. Iíve been kicking around a few ideas on how to carry/support it in the hauler. We also carry a golf cart in the garage so it will most likely ride along the side opposite the side entry door. Iíve looked at a few designs for PVC racks and cradles that would probably work fine, it needs to ride on its side though since the remaining space is too narrow for it to ride flat. I thought of suspending it from above too since it only weighs 68lbs, but would want it secured tightly to prevent banging around.

Does anyone else carry a kayak in their hauler? And how do you have it rigged?

Thanks,
BT

Right now, we have a short kayack on the floor. Put a throw rug under it, bungee to D rings in floor. Motorcycle is on the left, 2 bicycles on the right. Planning on building a PVC rack so we can take 2 kayaks. Total length is limited by garage. It's not a full 10' inside.

You could only camp along the Lewis and Clark trail, and paddle them to each stop.

Cobbled together a cart that would fit into the garage with the golf cart. I still need to take it all apart and glue the joints yet. I had to use screws to hold it together while in the design phase to keep it from falling apart while test fitting the kayak.

To make it ridged enough, I had to use 1" oak dowel rods inside the PVC otherwise it flexed too much. It's solid as a rock now and fits the kayak pretty good... First test run is next Thursday to the bay near Ocean City, MD. Castaways Resort, we can launch from the campground.
