Just bought a 1999 Dutchmen 26 foot camper and I need to buy a hitch. I have no idea what this thing weighs but I was thinking of going with 1200LBS Equalizer hitch. Should that be alright or going with a different size?
To be absolutely sure, best thing to do is get to a truck stop with a CAT scale and get it weighed (i know, you dont have a hitch yet) but since it is not a new camper, you dont know if there has ever been any modifictions made to it.

I know the original owner of the camper and it has never been modified. Wonder if I can find an online manual on it? Kinda in a hurry to get a hitch and my normal go to guy only sells Reese and I kinda like the idea of the Equalizer though.
I would use 10% of gross weight as a starting point for the correct weight of hitch. Equalizer is good, however the heads ARE NOT interchangeable if you decide you want lighter or heavier bars. I have used them in the past and they work well. I currently use the Eazlift Elite I use 600# bars on mine (lightest I could find), but the same hitch head will take up to a 1400# bar if needed.
