Eggspirts
I was thinking this morning that we have a wide variety of members here with a wide variety of experiences to help answer those important questions we have.
Not one of us are the 'eggspirt', the guy that has all the answers and only his answers are correct. The guy that will hammer home his answer because he thinks his way is the only way.
I was on a DirecWay/Hughesnet forum for awhile. There was a retired Navy chief on the forum that was the know all end all eggspirt. No other way would work unless he said so. Actually his avatar said 'because the chief says so'. I pictured him sitting at a computer with a Mister Coffee machine and a pack of smokes just waiting to plunge on someone that didn't agree with him. Granted he knew stuff but he didn't realize he didn't know it all.
Then there was the RUB on a motorcycle forum. This dude could quote the repair manual and if it wasn't in the manual it couldn't be done. Little did he know that after my riding experience of 50 years I learned a trick or two that wasn't in the book or taught in the motorcycle safety course.
We have a great group here that offers their answers and yield to other's answers as well. So many ways to get to the same end result.
Hell, we don't even get our hands smacked by the moderators, whomever they may be.

In the past year I can only recall a few post by anyone on this forum labeled as a moderator and those were contributing to the thread.
You could compare some of the other forums moderators to the Soup Kitchen Nazi on Seinfeld!!!

Yeah, I've been banned for questioning their self proclaimed authority a few times.

Very true, I couldn't sleep more than 10 or 12 hours that night after being banned.

I moderate on several forums( not this one)... some are better than others. The membership on this particular one is great, and very low maintenance compared to some that I have to deal with. In other words, we know how to behave. I suspect that the maturity level and the relatively low number of members contributes to that.

Sundancer, your right, I think most of us don't say anything, unless they have a ideal, or have done the repair in the pass, Good Job everyone...

On top of that, everyone is very civil. I'm kind of shocked at the way people talk and respond to each other on the other forums. This group is great. I learn something every day and even get a laugh or two!

What it is is, we all are older and in bed by 9pm. In the morning, which is a new day for us, we forgot what happened yesterday.

I also am a moderator on another forum. Folks on it could take a lesson from everyone here. We here must have been listening when we we told to "treat others like you would like to be treated".

Heck, I enjoy everyone's input. There are plenty of ways to crack an egg and get to the same end state. Some are just easier than others and I (we) may learn a thing or two in the process.
I chuckle at the description of the Chief, as being in the Navy, and a JO once, I have learned to respect what my Chief says....but as the old saying goes, Trust but verify.

9pm, I'm in my jammies by 7:30.
I can't even remember what did today, yesterday seems like a faint recolection from the past.

Just echo'ing the good point made: this is a very civil and informative forum. Heck, y'all would fit right in up here in Canada - haha. This is the the only forum I'm fairly regular on - mostly to read and learn from so many able folk. I'm retiring soon from work life but actually just a rookie when it comes to RV life. Thanks all.
