I put it there to direct the warm air across the floor instead of blowing up to the ceiling where I don't stand. I'm sure the floor is warmer during cold weather, I don't spend that much time in the kitchen anyway.
I have them on all of the registers to keep the warm air down as long as possible. Just another two dollar trick to beat the engineers down.
I do have another one stuck to the output side of the bedroom A/C. It seemed kind of dumb to be blowing cold air at the foot of the bed. The A/C in zone 1, the kitchen, also thows a little cold air out of the bedroom A/C when it's on. I can leave the zone 1 A/C on most of the night and get the benefit of the cold air blowing across my head without the immediate noise from the zone 2 A/C.
