Sleep Number Bed
We are finally looking into replacing our mattress...boss lady asked me to look into a Sleep Number Bed. I think we are ready to pull the trigger on the RV Mattress Premier, but a couple of questions have come to mind, we have a V3950.
1. Do we have a short or regular queen? I measured our mattress, it is a little longer than short, but a little less than regular...
2. Do I need to modify the platform at all with respect to possible mattress hang over?
3. I am assuming that the under bed storage will be harder to get into, may need to change the shocks?
4. Any pertinent information you may have which will move us one way or the other in regards to the mattress?
Thanks,
Cale

Can't speak for a 3950 but installed one in our V3605. Didn't need to change the shocks as they hold the bed fine. We did widen the platform to fit the bed but length was okay at the end. Standard Queen is what fits perfect.

Cale,
We have the short in our 3950. No need to modify anything. I actually think the under bed storage is easier to get to with the sleep number than a conventional mattress.

Thanks, I think we are going to go to the store this evening and take a look at some product. Then we will make a decision.
Thanks,
Cale

Probably be fine on the shocks, worst case scenario is you may have to move the mounting points forward or rearward and inch or so.

Cale,
Any luck with the mattress? I did the live chat online and was told that stores do not have RV mattresses.

Bill,
I ordered the mattress this morning. I called a local store yesterday, they said that stores do not stock any mattresses, they all have to be ordered and mailed...so you incur a nominal shipping fee..$89 for me.
I was going to drag the wife down to try one at the store, but with the 100 day in home tryout, we decided just to order it, if not liked fully in a couple months, we will just send it back.
We ordered the Queen Short and we should have it in 10ish days.

2015 3990 Voltage. No lift assist on the king bed? Did they forget or they don't come with it? Anyone with similar, please let me know.

Rusty,
You do not have the gas struts mounted to the bottom of the bed? If not, I think they straight up forgot to put them on...amazing.

Once everyone is up and moving around today, I can look to see what the lb rating on the struts are currently. What I have now is slightly anemic for the factory mattress and any bedding left on the bed when in the raised position. Sometimes it will slow free fall and sometimes it stays up....I will say that it is handy. The wife can get into the storage without my assistance.

Cale, I bought the standard bed size strut - not knowing they made them for the smaller storage areas also......he does not want to attempt putting on the LARGE ones when he thinks we should invest in the x-small size.....

Cale,
You can adjust the stiffness of the struts by moving the anchorage point a bit. I don't remember which way, but it shouldn't take more than an inch or so of movement .

We bought a queen RV bed from the SN Store in Alb NM in 2014. At the time CW had a good sale going on as well. Rounded corners of RV model make a huge difference in space in the 3895.

Sorry for the late response, yesterday got quite busy.
The struts we have installed are:
Master-Lift
p/n: 4533QZ 0370N 213/13
Also says ML34-80...I believe this means it is an 80lb strut. If you want pictures of the install, let me know. It is funny, Dutchmen actually did a decent job with that install, very secure, but did so many half way installs elsewhere....go figure.

Thanks, after doing some reading regarding the weight of the mattress....it may actually be lighter than the mattress already there, I may have to adjust them the opposite way if the bed wants to raise up....

What do the radius corners give you? There was nearly $150 difference between that and non-radius. However, the queen and short queen were the same price.

It gives you more room to move around in an already cramped space. Also, our bed platform with leather wraparound was sized for a full queen with radius corners. Made for a very nice fit...no retrofit required.
