Appropriate wire gauge is dependent on the load you will draw. An OEM install will probably only be 8 gauge at largest, which is adequate for typical camper use. If you have aftermarket accessories like an inverter that are wired in downstream of the disconnect, then you need adequate wire diameter to support those accessories which will be much larger gauge than 8. I am using 2/0 gauge from battery to disconnect switch and from there to 1500-watt inverter.
