Share your camping adventures

In this thread post text and pictures about your camping adventures. Past, current and future adventures welcome. All pictures welcome, regardless of orientation.

Questions welcome to help you enjoy your RV, camp and travel.

Please be so kind as to avoid slamming other contributor’s posts, negative comments about other contributor’s posts and pictures and intolerance of grammar, pictures, etc. if you don’t have something nice to say about another person’s post, reconsider posting. And starting a negative response to another person’s camping experience with IMHO does not make it more acceptable.

These are all humble suggestions; once created this thread belongs to the forum and its contributors to do with as they see fit.

Liberty Harbor RV near the Statue of Liberty on Jersey City, NJ

From DC, going up the 95, you CANNOT go through Baltimore due to tunnel restrictions. You must circle the city to the west on the 695 and meet the 95 again close to the Maryland border.

Additionally, after Baltimore, you will get eaten alive by toll trolls unless you know other ways w/o restrictions, traffic and low bridges.

Liberty Harbor RV is the only CG where you can walk to the subway (5 blocks, cheapest and trains every 3 minutes) and or ferry (2 blocks, longer wait and cost more). The subway brings you to the WTF “oculus”. You cross this mall to the subway platform in Manhattan and can take the “R” train to most attractions. It really is the only viable choice for a tour of Manhattan on an RV trip. The CG itself is a Parking lot with small sites, dumpy grounds and bathrooms. Still worth it.

We hauled our 5’er across the US & Canada in 2017, we were on the road for 10 months.
This iceberg has entered the harbor in Bridgeport Newfoundland, a small fishing village, supported by a fish processing plant. The village has approximately 150 residents. The berg blocked the harbor entrance for a week until there was enough melt, & the winds & tides pushed it in. In the picture with the totes you can see what the berg looks after a week in summer weather, having said that, there was probably still 500 feet of berg under water [90% of what’s above]. We will never forget our 2 week experience in Newfoundland.

New England

Salisbury State beach reservation on the border of Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Frigid water, so we were the only ones brave enough to try swimming. They have lifeguards why? Lobster was great and New Hampshire was scenic.

Camping Adventures - Cape Breton Island

Fortress Louisbourg was originally built by the French to protect valued fishing grounds & completed in 1740. About 1960, the Canadian Government began reconstruction, employing our unemployed coal miners & using the original stone…about 25% of the Fortress had been reconstructed. The Parks people quip that Louis 14th demanded to know why he couldn’t see the Fort from France due to the massive amounts of money & years that it took to build !
The road around Cape Breton is named the Cabot Trail, years ago residents recommended travelling clockwise to put yourself & rig on the inside, in case of high winds & fog, but if one takes it easy, it’s not a problem, keep in mind there isn’t a lot of shoulder, so that may cause some concern. Going counter clockwise from Beddeck puts you closer to the ocean, & we found it to be far more scenic. There are plenty of small fishing villages along the way, the circular route is about 200 miles.

Overnighting

Mooch camped with relatives in Cincinnati, then back on the road and Overnighting at a cracked barrel in Missouri off the 44. There was a 24 hour gas station/store with bathrooms across the parking lot. We found this to be the way to go for us because we were not carrying water and not stopping to dump for a few days. Plus it is easy to get on the road early with coffee and light breakfast, snacks, ice and drinks. We were unprepared to enter Uranus later that day, and still haven’t recovered.

Thanks for the link, it brings back great memories. El Pulpo Mecanico, the fiery octopus, is absolutely my all time favorite mutant vehicle. It was a wonderful time on the Playa and I can't wait to return next year. Only 333 days until we leave for Burning Man 2020, but who's counting?

Winter beach camping

Winter beach camping At silver strand state beach in Coronado, California. Serendipitous schedule of a birthday, a youth rugby game, great people and great weather converge fo the first camping trip of the year. After a cross country trip last year, it’s nice to stay close to home.
