Power Awning VS sudden heavy downpour
Awning was pitched heavy downward but didn't "dump" but buckled and destroyed it's self. Then wind did more damage. By flipping it on the roof.. smh..[emoji20]

Nate, Wow, hope it didn't do any damage to the side of your RV....If both sides damaged, its better to replace the whole thing.....Check to see how much the hardware is V buying the whole thing, if you are a little handed, you can get the hardware and replace it and buy the top for less.....

Both arm brackets destroyed, fabric and bent edges of tube..insurance is replacing entire awning.. and possibly replacing roof membrane(punctured roof when flipped up and over roof)...it did scratch a decal but that's it.. lol..what's hard to believe is how fast it happened... this downpour was only about 20min

Feel your pain. Lost mine in a wind gust last year. Didn't blow on the roof thankfully, but scratched the side of my full paint unit, naturally across all five colors. Now I tie down and when in doubt, bring it in. Glad your insurance is picking up the tab.

The current crop of power awnings leave a lot to be desired compared to the old manual ones, especially when it rains or the wind picks up a bit. I have a Dometic 9100 on my Concord. I added a set of custom poles to it to allow me to tie it down to the ground to avoid the wind uplift issue. I don't know if they would work in your case due to the height of the awning. Mine is around 9' off the ground when it is straight out.

I just make sure I have a good tilt, sink two screw in dog stakes at the corners, attach an awing spring to each, then loop over a ratchet strap. Gently snug (barely). No problems. Regardless, when it gets really gusty or over 15 mph, I pull it in. I also now bungee cord my rear deck awning to the rail, even though the legs are there. Just to be surre.

Someone informed me that if you change the pitch angle on one end the dump ability is lost. I lost one arm at a cost of 800 duckies!

The pitch angle was changed equally on both ends. I think with a lot of water weight supported by the slider it fooled the shock into thinking there wasn't as much as there really was... and BOOM that's all she wrote... all the weight was at the front.. best I can tell from the way both arms buckled.

I always use de- flappers, and sometimes tie downs at the corners with a piece of inner tube in the line to take up shock. I have and prefer the manual awning, I can drop one end as low as I fel a need, and if the wind picks up it only takes a few minutes to close it up.
Glad you are getting yours repaired by the ins company..

If insurance won't cover the dead decal you can go to any sign shop and get some vinyl stick on lettering for practically nothing. Carefully cut out the damaged part and stick on the new vinyl. It's hardly noticeable and stays put.

Plus the power ones are not made as well as our old manual ones.

We were camping over New Years and it was raining. I had mine straight out since all of the appetizers were on tables under mine. I noticed the water was pooling as I didn't think about the pitch being flat at first so I just lower the one side down a few clicks. All the water ran off that side so it kind of worked like a rain gutter. I just dug a little channel in the dirt to re-direct the water flow away from the table and it worked great.

this is heart shattering Nate! I feel like my belly went down on the floor and had an irresistible urge to look at my unit sitting under 8 inches of snow to make sure the awning is ok. Maybe i need a doctor
Best of luck with the repairs.
