Vent gasket replacement
What to use on vents when gasket has dried up and broken off. Any solutions out there. Thx.

Which vent are you dealing with?
Nearly all the stuff penetrating the roof have a strip of butyl rubber tape, between the vent and roof, with self levelling compound over the screw heads and edges.
Some of the exterior wall stuff just use a non-self levelling caulk alone, that would be the light weight plastic stuff like range vents.
The fix is to remove the vent, clean all the old dried sealant and the reinstall and reseal with the correct matterials.
While you have the vent removed check for any signs of water damage and allow to dry fully before reinstallation.

Looks as if you need the trim edge material that seals the crank up plastic vent to the metal housing. Is this a good guess?
If you can't find the OEM replacement you can always go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy a length of clear plastic hose of a small size. Slit it length wise and slip it over the plastic base. Add a little glue if necessary to keep it in place. Automotive vacuum hose will work also.

Do you know if you can buy the trim that snaps in around the compartment edges. It's a little different than the c channel on roof and corners.

I've used that trick for many years when I had a penetration hole that needed a grommet to protect whatever was passing through the hole.

We don't know what RV you have so it would be a guess. However, if you have what I think is the norm (which isn't normal), I'd look at a JC Whitney catalog. They used to have an automotive trim edge that is pretty much the same thing. This stuff is like a vinyl coated U shaped material with metal inside to give it its ability to be pushed over an edge and stay put.
I think I've seen it on RV sites but it seemed very expensive, mainly because it was coming from an RV store.
Maybe something like this http://www.jcwhitney.com/fairchild-i...?filterid=u0j1

A photo of what you need would be very helpful as it seems no two Dutchman products are the same.

I go back for the summer. In great shape except for mice. Has been at insurance repairs for two months. Haven't even used it yet. Repaired roofed and it was ready to go.
