Are you asking about slide toppers or awnings that are for the windows?

Slide toppers are nice for protecting the top of your slide and keeping unwanted sun from beating down on them and creating heat. The big problem with slide topper is wind and noise. If it gets really windy, like enough to damage the topper, what can you do other than retracting the slide.

Slide window awnings keep the sun off of your windows making in cooler inside. They also block your view somewhat.

I thought I had pictures of mine but can't find them.

I had the slider toppers installed on my new trailer. All my friends said that I SHOULD get them. This helps with sun but mostly keeps leaves and sticks from getting on the tops. There are some good videos on YouTube

I guess toppers is what I'm curious about. We don't get a lot of wind in Utah, that's where I hang my hat, so I guess my question is. Do I really need toppers if I keep up the maintenance on the seals of my slides. Lube & cleaning the tops and what have you.

Frankly, I don't see that many 5th wheels with slide toppers. I don't want them on my rig because they flap in the wind and I haven't felt the need to have them for protection from the elements.

No they are not needed, I choose to get mine for convenience. Like you said, clean the top with a broom before retracting and you will be good to go.

I got my installed at cost as part of the deal on my new trailer. I am not sure if I would have paid much more for them.

Thanks for the input. I'm not going to worry about it any more and just do the check and sweep as needed.

I dont think youll regret your decision. We've had 6-10" of snow on our slides several times and always wondered how the awnings would hold up! Keep moving forward and dont llok back. Best of luck.

According to my dealer, he said that they won't be able to install the one on the living room slide. It is too close to the regular awning.

Can you send me a private message. I have the same trailer and I want to talk to you about "issues" I have with mine. rsmith779@yahoo.com
