Given how the automotive/rv (mass production) industry works, these individual components are engineered by a 3rd party. {insert RV manfactuer name} takes these "systems" and integrates them into a complete unit. I have similar problems in construction industry. Exacerbated if I come into it mid project to clean it up. I have certain vendors that are automatic first choice because if something goes wrong they back it up. Others that get their crap ripped out, no second thought. Is Dutchmen flawless, no; compare to the "overall" quality of construction / systems it was by far the best. I looked at Jayco, Grand Design, few others. To go the next step would have been 2-3x as much if not custom build. My two cents, based on 30+ years in construction industry.

For the past year we have used the trailer a lot and have had no issue. Nice smooth operation. All was great until about 10 days ago. When closing the kitchen slide, when it got to the full close position, there was a loud pop. I thought a cable had broken but they were all tight. A gear actually broke in the gear box that is attached to the motor. The motor would still turn but every 4" the whole slide would jump when it hit the missing tooth on the gear. The repair guy said he had never seen that before so I am hopeful that this is a unique, one off type situation. We shall See.
Has anyone else encountered this?

My previous trailer, a Keystone Outback, had this exact thing happen with my kitchen slide. I ordered the gearbox from the dealer and replaced in about 30 minutes, then spent three hours performing adjustments...a real pain. I learned from that incident that cable slides are somewhat high maintenance. There is a BAL guide to proper adjustment. I even carried a set of cable ends and the crimping tool to ensure I could fix on the road.
I used channel locks to force passed the gear during operation...wife operated, I forced it...had to remove the facia to get to the gear.
Going by their guide, cable tension should be checked every 90 days. There should be no slack in any of the cables, in or out...as slack may eventually lead to cables jumping pullies. You can see slack in cables from stretching over time...especially where we are now, lots of contractors that full time here, haven't moved therir trailers in 12-18 months and there is noticeable slack in cables as you walk around and look at the trailers.

The exact same thing just happened to our 2016 Voltage 3805. The new gearbox cost a little over $100, not worth haggling over the warranty issue. I'm tired of that.

Seems that may have just happened to my 2015 V-Series 3805 as well. Coach has been stored since November with no prior slide issues. This weekend I tried to extend main slide and about every 3-4" it would jump and "pop" and seemed like it was going to take the main wall with it. It is now at the selling dealer to diagnose and repair. I'll let you know what I find out.

Total cost to repair my slide was about $350, gearbox and labor. Just a reference point.

UPDATE - The problem was exactly as experienced by others on this thread in that the gear box had failed. My coach has been repaired by my selling dealer and the cost was almost $600. Fortunately I have the Good Sam extended service plan which covered the repair less my $200 deductible. Apparently this problem is not limited to just Dutchmen or Voltage, but has been occasionally encountered with any brand using the same gear boxes. Hopefully the gear box manufacturer has resolved their issues so that the replacement just installed will last longer than mine did - 18 months with only occasional use. My coach has 3 slides and so far my other 2 have not experienced the problem - and hopefully never will.

Have a 2015 Voltage 3895. So far cables are doing good for us. Has the display show a fault on the kitchen slide at about 6 months. Minor adjustment and has been good ever since.

We've had our 2015 Voltage 3800 with the cable slides now for about 2 years. Early on, saw a fault light once in a while, but not anymore, and our slides have worked perfectly since day 1.
