Using Truck Lanes and Paying fpr Fuel
I hear/read that when using most truck lanes for refueling you are not able to pay at the pump. Only option is to go inside and pre-pay or leave the cashier your CC while you are refueling. Curious of what others on this forum experiences have been.

We usually use Flying J/Pilots. When using the truck lanes, almost all will take a credit card at the pump. Most won't print a receipt at the pump, you have to go inside to cashier or self service kiosk. You do have to skip through a few more prompts, I.e. skip unit number, no need to fuel reffer.
A lot of the Flying J/Pilots have RV lanes, which is our preference. If you have a diesel truck that uses DEF, that's only available in the truck lanes. Hope that will change at some point as just about all new diesels require DEF.

To piggyback on what Paul said...
If you're a Good Sam member, you can get a discount card for the Pilot & Flying J stops... or, apply for their fuel charge card that saves you even more. The 'charge card' has to be paid off every month, and is what I use.

So there should be no issue with using a credit card to pay at the pump when using truck lanes?

Shouldn't be. If you do need to go inside, protocol is to pull forward after fueling so the next rig can get in. I'd look for RV specific pumps on the car side. Some places keep the tuck lanes pretty clean, but we've been in some that were a greasy mess. Also pay close attention to what's going on around you. Most truckers are great, but there's always a cowboy or two who fly in and out. Be especially cautious if you park by the big rigs for rigs pulling in or out.

We use Flying J/Pilots stations for our Gas stops and use the RV Lanes, At 60ft Truck and RV, we have come across a couple stops where its a little hard to get in, but very few...I have come across a few older stations, where I had to drop off the trailer and go get gas because of the hight but i'm at 13.4 ft high. All is good, because when you get to your spot, YEA...

I am not sure why good same uses pilot. Have found that some have very limited access to the gas pumps for us TT traveler. And not worth the 3 cents discount for some of the locations. We then use loves which has lot of room for TT at gas pumps.

Agree. I usually fill up at 1/4 tank, which means my fill will be about 20 gallons. I realized long ago that it wasn't worth 60 cents to put up with the traffic, grease, and hazards in a truck environment. I use almost all Good Sam discounts and programs, except this.

Personally, I've got no trouble using truck stops... and I ALWAYS use the truck lanes in back.
Let's see: lucky if there's 2 RV lanes in front, which can be difficult to get to, or already in use, and sometimes both... or go around back where there are 10-to-20 lanes. For me, that's a no-brainer.
An considering my F-450 only gets between 6-to-8 mpg when pulling the rig, that 9¢/gal discount at Pilot and the Flying J is huge over the course of a year... and those large-mouth diesel pumps 'round back fill that big 36-gal tank in half the time those regular pumps in front do. Plus, when I'm done and wanna go inside to get a drink & snacks, all I gotta do is pull forward instead of trying to find a place to park.

Took our camper on a test run today with the new truck. As it so happened we needed to stop for fuel (diesel). Pulled into a flying J first, They had 2 RV lanes one of which was occupied with a huge Class A. Easy enough to get to the available pump. The card reader would nor read my rewards card. Tried to skip the rewards card part by pushing the skip button. Button did not work, looked like someone poked it with a key. So could not use the pump since it would not let me skip the rewards card part. Drove across the street to a Pilot. Not as easy to get into the RV lane but had no real issues. Was tighter to get out of the lane than it was to get in to.

I use Flying J & Pilot very seldom now. As there prices are so much more higher than stations around them even with the discount. Right now where I live Flying J diesel is $2.99, Sams club is $2.80 and three different independants are $2.65. I use Gasbuddy to find the best price & then check them out with google maps when out of town.

When we're out traveling we use the truck diesel lanes. And sometimes we have to take the credit card inside...but that way "she who must be obeyed" takes the card in and uses the restroom and shopping while I fill the truck.
Never a problem with card or BOSS.

I have a 91 gallon diesel tank in the bed giving me 1000+ mile towing range. When I do get fuel I get it after we set up camp so I can go to the pumps without the trailer. I use Gas Buddy to find the cheapest full near me.

Dunno about other states but here in Arizona Diesel fuel is taxed at $0.18 for light trucks versus $0.26 for trucks over 26,000 pounds. I tend to stick to the RV lane but I'll eat the additional tax and use the truck lanes if I don't like the line or the ingress/egress setup. I suppose I can go inside and ask for a lower tax rate but I'm not sure how that is done and I don't want to keep our hard-working truckers waiting on me.
