My first Dutchman disappointment
Went to Discount Tire to have my new American made Goodyears installed and remove the china bombs. While browsing inside the store a technician asks for me to come outside. One of the lugs on my new 2018 Coleman (purchased 07/19/17) is cross-threaded and won't come off. He has to get the 1" truck impact and of course the stud snaps. I'm very disappointed the person that installed this wheel didn't correct the situation at the factory. I'm 150 miles round trip from Camping World, what would you do? Any chance that Dutchman will at least send me a new stud?

Hmmm. "On the road" repairs just seem too complicated trying to involve a third party.
I just take matters into my own hands and geterdone with folks I'm standing in front of.
Don't let em steal your joy! (Dutchman, that is)

Yeah, not like the stud is a big expense or difficult to repair. I plan on checking the bearings before our beach trip in September anyway, it's just the principle of the thing that bothers me. This is our second new RV in 5 years, does no one in these manufacturing facilities take pride in their product?

Short answer.. nope.
Studs are cheap, replace it and move on. There will be more to come.

On a side note: I assume you are having the Goodyear Endurance tires put on. If you don't mind my nosiness, how much did you pay to have them installed?

They were $518.38 installed at Discount Tire but I have rebates worth $70.00 coming back. Actual cost is $448.38 plus buying an American made trailer tire is priceless.

Hopefully the stud will be the biggest of your issues with a new trailer. Hope all goes well.

Amen to that. Our last one was a Forest River Product and although there were some cosmetic issues it was relatively trouble free.

I live in a Dutchman.
I'm camping in a Forest River.
I could easily be convinced both RV's were built by the same folks. They have FAR more in common, than contrasts.
Having said that, they both are marvelous means to enjoy accumulating cherished memories. I LOVE the nomad way of life. Whether it be for a day, weekend, or months.
Relishing 65degrees and mountain views as I type!!!

in dealing with Dutchmen, you will be very lucky that this will be your only disappointment with them.

That does seem to be the norm, doesn't it? And as consumers we continue to give rv manufacturers thousands of dollars and accept less than stellar quality. I will say that Forest River sells another year of warranty for $150.00 direct to the consumer and they responded quickly to my one claim. The awning started to delaminate and they replaced it without issue.

Good thing. I purchased the five year warranty (wasn't cheap) and they have handled repairing it recently but my buddies at Camping World don't really know what they are doing.

If you don't mind me asking what was the problem? I also bought from Camping World.

This is what I found when I went up top to install a vent cover. Those black things are screws that should be holding the vent to the roof but they missed the wood deck on the assembly line and the installer just covered them with Dicor. I guess the trip from Indiana to Charleston and Charleston to Tennessee was enough flexing to make them poke back through the sealant, 4 of them. Luckily they hadn't leaked yet. They are in wood now and the whole vent is sealed with Eternabond.

One of my studs was stripped as well. They were doing warranty repair on the brake actuator (magnet broke off, rattling around inside of drum) and took care of the stud.
That was last season. This year, since we were going 14k miles, I decided to clean and repack the bearings, replace the seals, and check/adjust the brakes.
Someone had taken what must have been an air powered grease gun and went to town with it on the zerk fittings. Every shoe covered with grease.
As said so many times, just better off taking care of it yourself/right way and not let them steal your fun. They just don't care.

I agree with the don't let them steal your fun cause I've camped all my life and bought several rv's. I just think by accepting such obvious defects on very expensive vehicles we add to the problem. We wouldn't go fix problems ourselves on a brand new car that's under warranty, would we?
