Interesting. Yes, the soft start comes after the surge unit. But my issue is (maybe), it's only rated for 30 amps/ 50 amps... so on 30 amps I can see how it can limit initial current for 2 AC units, but it wouldn't take much to trip the pedestal breaker with 2 ACs running on 30 amp circuit. For that matter, that's one heck of a load on the trailers AC system as well. My Watchdog probably wouldn't like it at all...
Guess time will tell....

Soft Start RV 50A pedestal mount

I'm a SoftStartRV dealer/installer. I tested the original 30A pedestal soft start and it worked sometimes. SoftStartRV took it off the market in favor of the new 50A unit. If you have the older 30A unit, SoftstartRV will trade it in for up to two of the roof A/C units or the 50A unit.

I was supposed to get the new 50A unit prior to release, but apparently I didn't. I'll try to get one and report back on my testing.

Soft start has come up with a device that plugs into the pedestal! Has anyone tried this? Does it work?

I want one….

I wonder how it would act plugged into my surge suppressor? It would need to go after the suppressor since the suppressor would probably suppress the surge-maybe?
Since reading the info on the website, I went ahead and ordered the unit. I have always wanted to add the original units for the roof AC's but climbing around on the roof with two artificial ankles and hips is not fun. I hope this is the answer for protecting AC failures due to electrical stresses.

I’m really interested in adding soft starts to my AC units which is why this product is interesting to me. As a data center electrical and communications designer, this product interests me by trying to figure out how the heck they are doing this.

Right now, I wish I could afford soft starts for all three of my ac’s but if this unit works, it would be great. BUT, I use a 50 amp progressive surge protector at the post so I wonder if I could still use that in addition or not…. Too many questions!
