Wife: I'd love a small travel trailer for spontaneous 2-3 day local vacays and give us the flexibility later to look at areas out of state to move to.
Husband: You can't handle it. You would have to pack minimally, plan to clean after every trip, and ensure the tanks are empty, etc.. etc.. etc.. Maintaining it is just too much work. It's a bad idea now and forever.

Years later:
Husband: I found a nice 19' Kodiak Cub I'm going to buy so we can spend some time finding a new place to move to. Maybe a short vacay or 2 as a side benefit. I think that would be a good idea and it should be easy to care for.
WIfe: Sigh...

So - as of yesterday we have a 2020 Kodiak Cub 198BH. It's been a loooong time since I helped my daugher with her 17' trailer so I"ve forgotten many 'good' ideas and prep steps. Such as:
  • What should I ensure I put in camper? Bedding, spices, pots, pans, cutlery, etc? Best kind if TP for tanks? I'm old and tinkle a lot.
  • What should I make sure I do not take? Curling Iron, 5 suitcases of clothes I won't need?
  • Any prep suggestions for interior or exterior? This is used so I am probably forgetting things I may need at a campground.
  • Campground things for various amenities?: I have 30amp cables but what else should I think about? Currently I have to get a poop out hose, but are there different connectors? I have no clue what the difference is between sewer at the campsite versus sewer at the campground. Nor what the water options between the 2 are.
  • Any prep suggestions for truck (old Avalanche that can tow) What extra should I have for those OMG moments such as when we got the trailer and didn't have a hitch pin. Had 3 of them at home but none when we got trailer. Yeesh...
I work remote so travel in trailer no issue if I have internet. But I really have no clue on campsites and how they work. Looking to go as inexpensive as possible on this new venture. Travel from Orlando to north west Georgia, then eastward to Henderson NC for the first big trip. Are there groups, clubs, anything I should consider joining to make campground easier and less costly? Husband is a Veteran.

We're in our early-ish 60's and would LOVE to meet people at places for future friendships. Is this realistic?

I'm Crystal and hubby, who's not part of this intro is Jeff.

We use the European style for the issue with toilet paper, I installed a bidet and we use the trashcan for the TP so we can use any TP we want…

We purchased an induction cooktop so we don’t have to use our propane for cooking. Anything that you can do to conserve propane is good, small electric heaters. We use an oil filled type so there are no open heating elements.

We have all the spices that we have in our house that we normally use. The 80/20 rule applies here.

TJ Max, Ross, etc are your friends. Think small, er. Compact for your RV. Again, 80/20 rule for pots pans dishes, etc.

Get yourself a clear attachment for your dump hose. Put about five gallons of water in your black tank before you use it (keeps a TP from forming!).

Water pressure regulators are a must plus water filters as well as a reliable surge suppressor. Walmart is your friend for these guys..

Almost forgot, don’t rely on getting reliable internet from the campground. Two options, cell phone or STARLINK (as much as I hate to say it)!

We have direct tv, I have a portable dish I set up so I can watch our regular tv. If you have reliable internet, you can watch streaming.

THANKS SO MUCH -- Didn't think of a bidet and trashcan for tp as a big boost on tank cleaning ease. I ahve induction cooktop so will take it with me.
