Rubicon 2900 hitch weight!

Hi everyone - we own a 2013 Rubicon 2900 - I was under the impression that our hitch weight was somewhere around 1400 #'s...while checking on line today for a Hensley Hitch, and doing more do-diligence - I found hitch weights anywhere from 1352 obs to 1535 lbs for the Rubicon 2900 (all being 2013)....our TH is at the dealer and will most likely be there for 3 or 4 weeks (still working on warranty issues)...anyone out there have a 2013 - 2900? Can you tell me what you actual hitch weight is????

thanks for the info....DH is NOT into this and has me doing the research......I know I can purchase a reconditioned Hensley for $1400.00, however these may be just as good....thanks for the lead!
 
Hey, Nana & Poppy,

I bought a Hensley for the simple reason that my tail gate on the Ram wouldn't drop down all the way with the trailer hitched. The Hensley moved the trailer back far enough that I can open the tail gate when I stop for fuel, etc.

Now that I have the Hensley and driven across the northern states with the brutal cross winds in the fall, I'm glad I had it.

It's comforting to look in your mirrors and see what the trailer is doing and not feel it it the wheel.

I thought that towing my old Airstream with a Reese and the anti-sway setup was a dream, but it couldn't hold a candle to the Hensley.

Now that I am towing a very large brick, I would never go back to the Reese or any other hitch that uses the spring bars to control sway.

I know I am opening the proverbial cans of worms, as we all like to think that our choice in hitches is the best, but been there, done that, now I've got the Hensley.

Just do your research pick what you feel is going to be the best hitch for you and be happy with it.
 
hddecker - thanks for the kind words.

My problem is the tongue weight - my toy hauler is back at the dealer yet AGAIN, and all my paperwork is in the trailer.....I know that adding "stuff" to the tongue is going to make the weight change (ie 2 batteries, 2 full propane tanks, small tool box) but I don't want to order 1400# spring bars (not sure if that is what Hensley calls them) and then find out my trailer is too heavy for the new hitch....I guess I'll just wait until we pick it up from the dealer and stop at the scale on the way home.....thanks all!!!!

You should give the folks at Hensley a call and discuss your set up.

I stopped at their office Davison MI, on our way to Newfoundland. I thought that I should upgrade my spring bars to the 1400#, but after I talked with them, they came out and looked at how I was set up. A few adjustments and I was back on the road and the ride was greatly improved and I still had the 1000# spring bars.

What I did need was the straight draw bar, rather than the 4" dropped that I had for the Airstream. When I messured the truck and new trailer, I must have screwed up, the measurments. My measurments showed the same as the Airstream, so I was trying to level the trailer with the spring bars and couldn't understad why the ride was so bad.
 
Jam - I have been in touch with Hensley and they seem to think that the Hensley may not work because of the tongue weight.....again going by "internet weights" they vary greatly. Hopefully in two weeks we will have the TH back and we can weigh the tongue and go from there.

Hi Kathy,

I see from other threads you have your camper back from the dealer.

Wondering if you got your weights sorted out and if a Hensley is in your future.
 
No not yet - it was pretty much emptied out when we dropped it off at the dealer 3+ hours away.....we live in the boonies and we must travel at least an hour to get to any kind of scale or big box store....so it will have to wait until we head out on a trip.

I will say that if the tongue weight is less than the 1400 (but I doubt it - we do have a genny, and the propane tanks etc, up front) - we may go for a rebuilt Hensley.

We will not be heading anywhere until July and that would not be a good test, as we are running an event and I am bringing everything but the kitchen sink and and putting a office in the garage area....

But we shall see! I'll post what we find when we do get it weighed!
 
Just picked up my new 2015 rubicon 2900....and it defiantly has a heavy tongue weight.....wish i did no exact or close,

Check Etrailer and Amazon. They both have scales for weighing tongues. They are small and can be set under the tongue jack prior to lowering the foot. We carry one with us, it is good to see if we are loaded the right way each time.

We never got to a scale this summer - but it is on my list for next summer.....

Cale the tongue scales you are referring too are more than I want to spend "just to have"! I'll wait until we can get to a CAT scale.....
 
I have the 2015 2500 Rubicon and just weighed my tongue this morning. I have very little 'wet weight' up front other than the 2 30lb propane cylinders (full), 2 batteries and some tools and to counter that I have 130L of gas in the rear tank.

My tongue weight came in at 1610lb!!! That will be what is causing me the issues with the WD system then....
