Passenger tires on a 2007 TAB

Greetings to all:
I am a new member. I just bought a 2007 TAB. The DOT # on the tires indicates that they are original to the trailer 0307 !!! They got me home, but need to be replaced.


I learned that these are a passenger tire. I thought that because of the forces of the trailer on the road special RV tires are needed.


Does anyone know?

Also, what would be the maximum travel speed on new tires?


(Called Nucamp and Dutchmen and local service dept. No one knew this! Dutchman took over in 2014 they told me)

Lots of opinions here but in my opinion the main thing to worry about is the load capacity of the tires. Some folks run truck tires and think they are better. Most trailer tires are made in China and do not have the same speed rating as DOT car/truck tires but often have greater load capacity.

Personally, I would get a quality trailer or ST tire that has ample load capacity and works on your rim size but also necessary tire pressure.

Goodyear makes a trailer tire called Endurance that is actually made in the USA and has good speed and load capacity ratings. It is not cheap as far as trailer tires go but one area I would not mess around is tires.

Get those current tires replaced before you take a trip!

Made a bunch of calls searching for the ST tire. I talked to a guy at the tire center, who said this size tire is not made in ST.
I'm definitely getting replacements somehow.

Also, if you do upgrade the tires, the rims. May not support the new tire pressures. There are lots of post here detailing how tires blew and took out parts of the rv.. don’t skimp on tires!

Not sure if those tires are really the tires that came with the RV.

I would possibly look for increasing the tire width (the first number) or height (the second number). I have also heard of some members here using LT tires but ST tires are what usually comes on the newer vehicles these days (I personally think they track better). My go to place for tires is tire rack. They are a wealth of information for self help.

Give the trailer a good look over inside and out, there should be a sticker somewhere pointing out the tire size. There should also be a GVWR sticker, usually they are on one and the same sticker.

If you can't find that, take the trailer to a scale, and divide the axle weight by the number of tires. That will give you a baseline for minimum tire weight rating and find a tire and rim combination that fits the bolt pattern that exceeds that minimum by a bit.

Do not use truck or car tires on a trailer. They cannot handle the side force stresses of turning or backing a trailer unless it happens to have only one axle. The side walls of a trailer tire are reinforced to handle side stress the way a passenger or truck tire cannot.

Finally, there are tire size calculators that can give the diameter of the current tire, and find a tire that fits that diameter and rim size. You may go up or down a number to fit a ST that fits. You might find a 195/65 tire will work.

I did find the sticker and it gives the above size.


DOT # includes 0307 3rd week of 2007 That's why I thought they are original.


I will keep ferreting out tires.

I had to go look up the trailer, so I did. That type trailer will be fine with normal passenger tires. As I said before, unless its a single axle, trailers need ST tires, but single axles do not since they don't experience the sidewall squish and scrub when backing and turning.



Any decent car tire in that size will work.

Thats his problem though, no one makes a trailer tire in that size. 225/75R16 is the closest trailer tire.
