New to us pop up

Major water issues first time out. Didn't realize we needed s pressure regulator and water pressure at campground was probably in excess of 100. Water started spraying out from the underside and collected pretty quickly on the floor inside and looked to be near the little water heater. Any ideas where to start to fix?Thanks!!

You are going to need to hook up to water and check every fitting and fixture. What year and model is your unit? Some of the earlier units had PBT which needs to be replaced with PEX. PBT is grey, PEX is white or colored red and blue. You will probably need to invest in a crimper tool too.

Thanks Aaron! It's a 1996 popup model 1204. I don't know if it has the PBT but I think it might. My husband says he has a crimper tool. Do you think for someone who is moderately handy this can be s DIY job? Or should we bring it somewhere?

It ain't rocket science. If your hubby has a crimper tool you should be good to go, once you figure out what needs replacing.

Here's another approach. First remember that the leak is probably in one place, like a chain will break at the weakest link, not all of them. Then get one of the "air compressor to garden hose" adapters that is used to blow the system out of water when winterizing. Adjust the air compressor to a low setting, say 25 or 30 psi, and hook it up to the water inlet. You will hear hissing at a leak. If in doubt, use soapy water to detect via bubbles. Repair the first leak. See if there are more. When able, crank the pressure up to no more than 50 psi to make sure it's all holding. Then, when the system can hold 50 psi of air, it can hold 50 psi of water. Your thread speaks volumes about the wisdom of a pressure regulator!

Second thought: Better not crank the pressure past 40 psi. No need to push it further.

My friends had a camper with pex plumbing and their regulator failed at the campground and caused a leak under the bed. Put a new regulator on it and the leak never came back. That's when I stopped using my non adjustable one and bought one with a gauge and pressure screw.

This is what i'm using. The guage broke after a year but I found a liquid filled one on ebay for $12, and it works great. I found that when working, the fixed pressure one I had only ran at 30 psi, I run this one at 45psi on our camper and the water pressure for showers is great.
