Hi everyone,

Picked up a 2007 Dutchman Colorado 30RL to sit on a property I visit frequently. Towing an empty 32 ft trailer 500 miles was a learning experience. Turns took more thought than usual with a long, borrowed F350 and the trailer. I was always glad to get out of town and back on the highway. :) It may not accumulate many additional miles.

I'll need to learn trailer repair and upkeep since I bought an 18 year old trailer. No major repairs, but several things need fixing that didn't present themselves until the trailer was being used.

I'm retired and looking forward to enjoying my purchase. Also hoping to learn some of the wisdom shared in the forum -- along with a few smiles. Thanks in advance!

best wishes to all,
Dave

Good news for you is probably everything that breaks or isn't working for you already happened to someone else here so with a few searches you will find many answers--some answered multiple times in these threads.

And I agree towing is underrated for how difficult it can be and in my opinion there should be an actual RV drivers license required. It is scary to thing a 70 year old retired couple can go buy a 1-ton long bed truck and 43' fifth wheel and hook up and go. It can be very dangerous and people could get hurt or killed by negligence or incompetence.

I have been towing all types of trailers for years, have plenty of hours with cars on race tracks and still have close calls all the time!

My advice is allow ample time to tow, avoid getting gas when hitched if possible and try to limit towing to daylight hours for both visibility and mental awareness. If I clip a curb or scrape a driveway or have a close call it is almost always at night!

Oh and watch out for the "know it all's" in the RV parks and campgrounds who try to "help" you get into a spot, etc., Be patient with your spouse or spotter and do not get frustrated!
