New Coleman CM16FBS Owner

Picked up our Coleman Wednesday...

It was sort of an impulse purchase Gotta love those!

We are a family of 3, two adults and a pup. Not new to camping or RV'ing. I have been camping in one form or another for 45 years. We have owned a Coleman (Fleetcrap) Popup, and have a couple of large vintage Airstreams that are still undergoing their 120 step rehab. This Coleman is a fill in to allow us to take our dog to the lake, beach or mountains and not get gouged the pet fee.

We bought it specifically to tow behind my bride's 2003 F-150 with the small V-8. Good thing it has the factory tow package.

!975 31' Rear Bath Twin beds
1981 31' Excella II. That one will probably never see the road again. The frame is pretty rough and it has an iffy title. It is a rear bath also. It was pretty much gutted when it was given to me. We are probably going to stabilize it and use it as a guest cottage on our farm.

The '75 is pretty much torn down right now waiting on me to get some welding done on the rear frame, along with some other fabrication work, then it can start going back together.

Time has been an issue for the past few years, but hopefully things will improve.

Ya them rear baths did have problems with the frame. We had an '85 Sovereign, first year of Thor Industries ownership. I was less than impressed with the workmanship.

I would like to get another Airstream, late 60s early 70s. Had a line on one in Alberta, just getting ready to leave to check it out and the owner phoned to tell me he had sold it.

The Airstream sure towed a whole lot better that the 30' brick that we have now.

You think the Thor version was bad you should see the Beatrice Foods years :-sad- What does a FOOD company know about building traverl trailers?

I really like the way the Airstreams tow, and at least with an aluminum shell you have something to work with 25-40+ years down the road.

Thanks for the Welcomes... shake down trip is this weekend. Headed for the state park at the lake. Just have a few things to take care of first. Need to re-set the WDH hitch, they used 1,000# bars at the dealer for a 3500# trailer I finally managed to chase down a set of 550# bars which will work much better. Other than that it is just a matter of keeping my bride from loading too much stuff into it.
