N811 won’t stay lit

This spring we bought our 2013 rubicon 1905. So far we have used it once and it was fantastic for what we bought it for.

The issue we’re having is with the fridge it is a norcold n811. When we got it worked good on electric it seemed to struggle to light on propane. So I cleaned the burner area and put a new norcold ignitor on it and it seemed to light better so I called it good. I did not test the propane mode for a length of time. I just made sure it lit.

We took it on its maiden voyage on a fishing trip. We soon found that even though the fridge would light on propane pretty good it would not stay lit.

The odd thing is there doesn’t seem to be a rhyme or reason to why it goes out. Sometimes it would stay lit all night, sometimes it would stay lit for an hour. While we were camping I read the manual which stated that in high elevation it may have propane issues I think it said above 4500’? Don’t quote me on that. We were camping at about 8000’

We dealt with it where we could and kept our food cold. And Iv been playing with it since we have been home. We live at about 5800’ and the fridge does the same thing.

In total this is what iv done with it
Replaced the igniter
Cleaned the burner
Cleaned the gas valve,
Checked the utility area for anything obvious
It has a nice clean blue fame

It will switch from electric to propane

This week I put it on propane on Monday and it stayed lit all the way till Wednesday then went out. I re lit it and thursday morning it was out again.

I keep lighting it because I’m trying to find a rhyme or reason to it. I have not been able to be there when it goes out

All other propane accessories work without issue

Ideas Iv had
I haven’t done anything with the flue
Circuit board
Propane regulator
Maybe igniter position

Some of these things I think are unlikely but I’m not sure which direction I should go with this.

Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated. Thanks

no fan, you have to put one, like one of those computer fans and it goes in the compartment behind the fridge. You also may look at the flue to see if there is a sensor there.

Well I’ll be darned…. I’ll poke my head in tonight and see what I can find…..

Another wonder I had is if it if maybe over heating and that’s what’s shutting it down? I think that would indicate an issue in the flue

I took a peak in there and didn’t see any sail switches or similar. The fridge was still running on propane. I did find that the flame was not burning. I opened the fridge door for a minute and it lit again.

I managed to catch it shortly after it went out. I reset the fridge and it popped a lot. It went into lockout. I reset it and it popped a bunch more. And lit just before it locked out again.

I think I have solved the issue!

I went back through and checked everything. And I noticed that even though the igniter was in “spec” 1/8-3/16 away from the burner the tip was kind of offset from the burner

I took it apart and bent the electrode so it was still the same distance away but more over the center of the burner. It ran for a week straight in my driveway and on a camping trip this last weekend and didn’t have a single issue.

I wonder if a previous owner before me had a similar issue as the old igniter also sat in the same spot? Anyway I believe it is fixed

Well that is great news. Always nice to solve a mystery!
