Hi, I am a new member who recently purchased a 2001 Dutchmen pop up tent trailer. Booked our first camping trip to lovely Jasper Alberta but stuck on the drive with a roof that will not go down .

Hi all , any tips on how to get the roof down on my 2001 Dutchmen Voyager pop up trailer / it's stuck up which means that I can't even tow it to a repair shop .

I don't have a popup and never had experience with that model but with no other responses I might be better than nothing.

Is your crank turning (i.e. and not doing anything) or is the crank stuck?

I have two quick anecdotes from helping my grandpa with his popup.
First, there was the time his crank was stuck, I ended up crawling underneath and tapping/beating on the plate that moves along the long screw as he cranked. after the first couple inches it went down fine.
Second, probably because he never really fixed the first problem, his crank basically stripped. I ended up using a vice grip underneath to lower the top, 1/2 a turn at a time.

Six days since original post, so I would think they figured it out by now.
If they did, it would be nice to follow up with a problem solved post.

Sorry, I guess I just saw it in the weekly digest email and it is so rare that I have something to offer that hasn't already been said by the knowledgeable folks with thousands of posts under their belt that I felt I should post. I'll go back to lurking quietly again ;-)

Oh, and welcome to the forums Gungadin.

@joemn your post was great and would likely be helpful.

But the reality is the OP’s first two posts in this thread were also his last two posts and he likely won’t come back because he either solved the problem on his own or for it fixed. But that doesn’t mean someone else might benefit from your post.

I have seen people respond to really old posts on some sites, sometimes months or years even and when pointed out they say they didn’t realize but that still doesn’t render that post unhelpful for everyone else who might have the same issue.

It would be nice if the OP posted something about the resolution because that would likely be helpful too but I suspect it won’t happen.

Have you lubed the posts recently? Need to get 3-way RV silicon for slide outs and spray into the top of each of the sections of the posts, then let it sit for a while and you should have easy moving parts.
