I want to extend my 274BH counter top in the right side of the sink. I got the brackets, and need a 24" x 17" top, but not sure what to use since its only 1" thick. I am considering butcher block, but its 1 1/2" thick. I think it would be the least out of place looking top, but what else is out there that would work? Ideas? Pics? We are leaving at the last week of July and would like it done by then.

Try your local marble/granite fabrication shop. They have several thicknesses of the material and might even have a broken piece you could use.

Being a woodworker myself I would say have a nice piece of wood custom built to fit. You could make it one color from a nice piece of high quality hardwood. Or make a custom end grain woodblock style then seal it with a quality varnish.

Send some pics of you current setup might give some better ideas.

Actually I was looking around my basement and forgot about a cherry and maple counter top I had made a decade ago for our kitchen, but replaced it when we put in a new cook top. It is just the right size, but heavy. I will work on it off season when I can brace up the cabinet side so it doesn't shatter from the tops weight while moving or working on it. I built it from 4/4 cherry board glued with biscuits and surrounded it in a maple frame. Very solid.
