The tanks do have a vent so the fuel will flow by gravity naturally. I suspect that vent connection is more than just a right angle barbed fitting. I pretty sure there is a check valve in that...

Doesn't the connection to the filler hose come with a check valve? I put a 90 gallon tank in my truck, the tank had the manual valve and had a check valve in the filler hose connection.
