In my 5er, there are smoke and CO detectors on the ceiling, and a gas (propane) near the floor to detect leaks in the gas lines. I'm thinking I have the CO detector because of the generator.

Great to hear you had a good first outing. Are you sure it was the smoke detector and not the CO detector? My furnace sets off my CO detector. I suspected it was faulty so I purchased one of those...
