Mine did same thing I pulled them down. I put super bright led strip 1 inch below awning and attached to side of rv with aircraft grade adhesive. with a a remote I also put two strips underneath rv I can change colors if want if you do this route get weather resistant lights it took one hour for awning and two for underneath total cost under a hundred I’ve used the same lights for our golf cart with no issues
