Skirting my 5th wheel
I've never tried to skirt my RV before but decided this
winter I'd give it a try. I'm using 2x2x8 lumber from Home Depot that cost $1.99 each. Deck screws that are 3" and have the Torque head. I bought some 4 mil black plastic sheets that measure 3' x 50 feet and I think ?? that two rolls will do it? Not finished yet so we'll see. Got the plastic on Ebay for $22 bucks per roll incl shipping. Warp Brothers 4CH350-B 4 Mil black plastic sheet I bought a bulk roll of bubble wrap also on Ebay So I build a simple frame that fits under the bottom edge of the RV and cover the front with the black plastic which folds over to the back side of the frame and is stapled in place with a staple gun. inside the frame the buble wrap has been stapled too. The sections of frame work are held together with 2 deck screws. I'm on a concrete pad but if I was on dirt I would have added some U brackets to the bottom rail along each section and used short re-bar stakes to further strengthen the skirting. I've just started this project and have posted 3 photos to show how it's coming along. Lastly, I bought (Ebay) a roll of crash wrap that is 24" by 200' and will run this around the whole skirting so that it is half on the RV body and half on the skirting to secure the top of the skirting to the RV and to cover any gaps around stairs and the RV's wheels so no cold air can get under the 5th wheel. This winter we'll see how this works out. |
