Upgrading from F150 to F250

I am buying a new truck soon and will get a F250 with the 6.2L Gas engine. I'm towing a 299BHSL. My question is, does everyone still use weight distribution when they upgrade to a 3/4 ton truck?

Has a Tongue weight of almost 800 pounds! You would be better off using a WDH, get a better ride and much better safety, I believe. I have a 5/8 ton and a WDH is a necessity.

I think most truck manufacturers state that once you get over 5k of towing that you need a weight distribution hitch. If you check the manufacturers towing specs for the trucks you are considering the chart will likely have an asterisk somewhere and that will say something about if you exceed XX pounds on a bumper tow you need the WDH.

Keep in mind the WDH is supposed to help with how the trailer impacts the tow vehicle and probably has less to do with how the truck supports the tongue weight or how much towing capacity your engine, trans and suspension have, although it impacts that too.

My F250 hitch has a sticker on it that says: Weight Distributing max gross trailer weight 12,000lbs and max tongue weight 1,200lbs. Weight carrying max gross trailer weight 6,000lbs and max tongue weight 600lbs. It is a V-5 class hitch. So I use a weight distribution hitch for my tt.

The WDH is more for sway control than weight distribution when you get into the heavier sprung trucks, but is highly recommended to use one even if not required.

I have anti sway bars for my WDH but I never installed them. Do the WD bars help with sway? I assumed that the anti-sway shock handled the sway

Depends on the type of WDH, the good ones have built in sway control, the cheap ones do not.

I use an equalizer 4 point weight distribution hitch on my F250 SC short box and it handles sway very well. I wouldn't tow without it.

I have a Blue Ox that I used on the F150 and on the F350, it's like no trailer back there, can't even feel a passing semi.

If it is new, why not the 7.3? Looks like a beast with it's very high low end torque. Dyno tests on the Tremor 7.3 show it is right where Ford said it will be for power and torque. It is also easy to main tain, a huge plus in trucks today. What I found interesting is it produces the same flat torque curve the Ecoboost has but without using any turbos.

Holy Cow. TFL did an IKE test with the new 7.3 F250. Hauled 16K up in just under 9 minutes, beating the Chevy 2500 by 4 minutes. That 7.3 IS a beast.


I'm kind of bummed out now. The 2020 F250 can tow more weight than my 2012 F350, on gas and not Diesel. They made the F250 the perfect RV Tow vehicle now.
