Transporting camper for new owner
Anyone have any experience towing/delivering a fifth wheel for someone else? Example contracts? Concerns/insurance issues, etc?
We have possibly sold our toyhauler and the new owner does not yet have a truck. They are about 200 miles away and we may deliver to them as long as the conditions are right.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Don

Just a thought, but I would build it in as part of the sale. Keep it in your name until delivery. When you buy insurance, they ask if you use vehicle for commercial, lease, hauling, etc. While no one would ever know, in the event of an expensive collision, investigators may raise an issue.

Thanks Rusty. I plan to maintain my current insurance until the title is transferred as protection for my interest

Agree with Rusty. It would be terrible if something were to happen during your trip to deliver it but it is always a possibility.
The other concern I have is what happens if you drive the 200 miles and the buyer gets cold feet.
If it was me I might check with third party transport companies and consider that too. If you can actually make the sale complete before it leaves your home then if something happens on the way it is the buyer’s problem and you also don’t have to worry about him backing out or “noticing something” on the trailer when you arrive. For peace of mind I would probably pay the transport charge myself if that was an option. Maybe the buyer will split the cost?
Just a few thoughts.

Appreciate your thoughts. The sale will be complete before I move it off my property. I spoke to my bank and insurance company this morning to get their advice.

If the sale is complete then any issues should be his which is nice. Also, if you are delivering it for free (not being paid to transport it) then wouldn’t it be just like borrowing someone’s car or trailer and not a commercial delivery?
Curious to see what you find out from your insurance company.

The sale will be complete. I agree and so does my insurance company. The buyer was required to put insurance on it before they signed loan docs yesterday. As soon as the funds hit my bank, I will schedule delivery. Keeping my policy in place until delivered just in case something were to happen. Not like it is costing me anything extra. Also, only an hour past my dad's house so not like I am going that far out of my way to visit dad.
