Snow towing

Anyone have any comments/advice on this subject? Planning a trip to Tn and may run into this. Thanks.

There's no snow in Tennessee at the moment, but I would NEVER tow a camper on snow covered roads around here, that's a quick way to total your rig. They usually take good care of the highways all winter long up here, the secondary roads will get you.

Manufacturers have units towed in the snow all the time. The dealers still order them in the winter also. Just be careful and adjust your brakes accordingly. Also once you get to your warm weather destination be sure to rinse all the salt off your frame so that it does not rust and corrode any faster than usual.

If at all possible DON'T! I have towed in snow before and don't ever want to do it again. If the roads are clear and snow is on the sides of the road... maybe.

One thing I learned is to take the sway control off, it will allow the tail to wag the dog. I was towing a very large popup with an F150 when the weather guessers missed the front line by about 70 miles and I ended up towing nearly 100 miles in nasty conditions.

Thanks for the response. But I hear Gatlinburg will have snow the week of Christmas. That's where I'm going.

I was there 3 weeks ago and had no issues with the terrain, but snow changes everything.

We are not camping, the RV will be at the campsite in Boone and we are staying at the Courtyard (points). Are you celebrating New Year's Eve anywhere? be at one of the local eateries (and BAR) then outside for the midnight fireworks (then back inside). Going to see Dolly's Christmas in the Smokies on the 29th (6).

Luckily we do not have snow here, at least not to any degree, after being stationed in R.I. for 2 years I will not (if I have a choice at all) travel on snow. I try not to go north of Dothan, Al. in the winter..

I think the best advise given is "don't do it" If you have potential of snow on your route during your trip, I would not do it. Time to come up with plan B.
If you absolutely must. removing the anti sways is a good idea and keep in mind some states require snow chains on trailers with electric brakes......

After 1" here, all the bread and milk are gone in the stores. That's not even a joke.

Also 2" will be reported as 4+

I live near a military base... When it snows the beer and chips go first, then they get sent back for the milk and bread. It is a well established southern custom to head to the grocery store at the first sign of snow.

I've towed in snow three times and it was very stressful. The worst was heading from California back to Colorado on I-15. Descending into St George we had been driving into a storm for about an hour but the roads were "ok". The final 30 minutes into St George it had gotten dark because we were already going slow and now the snow was sticking to the road. It was a white knuckle experience for sure. I was doing about 25-30MPH (on I-15) descending into town and most of the time touching the brakes the ABS on my truck immediately kicked on.
My advice for snow covered roads- Go slow. Once your speed creeps up it's very hard to get it back under control. Use the transmission and minimize braking as much as possible. Oh and did I say go SLOW!
