Looks like the pin box may hit my bed rails.

I got my Curt Q24 hitch installed and put it on its lowest setting. Hooked it up to the the 5er and with it on my level pad it was only about a half inch/1 tenth of a degree out of level. But it looks like the pin box may hit the bed rails on real sharp turns. I don't want to raise the hitch and throw the trailer out of level. Looks like I might get 50* of turning radius. Don't know if I will need more than that but don't want to get it a bind and need more.

I can guarantee you that you will need more than 50' of turn radius at some point. I own a fifth and would never go into a campground with only that little turning radius. As for your pin box hitting your bed rail it shouldn't but depending on the type of pin box, this might be an issue, pictures would really help. What I would do is get the wife or someone your trust to watch your pin box and bed rail clearance while you back up and turn to see if there is a clearance issue, if not, you're laughing, if there is you really only have two options, raise you hitch a setting or two, yes this will throw out your level, not the choice I would go with. I would look for a new pin box to fit your application change your pin box to a type with a greater drop at the king pin. these boxes cost $1100 and up not really cheap but when compared to the cost of your rig it a small amount to pay in the grand scheme of things. Hope this helps let us know what you do and again pics would help.

If as you say you have the Curtis at the lowest setting raise it a couple of settings and raise the pin box on the fifth a couple of settings to raise the pin box height yet maintain the fifth level.

Because as you raise the hitch height you also raise the pin box up into the mounting bracket on the front of the fifth. the mounting bracket on the pin box is designed to allow you to raise and lower the pin box in the bracket through mounting bolts, as such once the pin box is raised into the bracket you will have to raise the hitch to compensate for the amount you raise the pin box. the over all effect is the fifth stays level but the hitch and pin box are higher.

I misunderstood what you were saying . The pin box is raised as high as it will go.

Driving home. I believe you are back to having to replace the king pin.

I don't know if replacing the pin box will help it is hitting the area where the pin box attaches. I believe that is part of the frame.

In that case sounds like you'll have to adjust out of level to make it work. Confusing, I've never heard of this, maybe someone else will pipe in with an idea.

Another option is to flip your axles so there under the springs. If there already flipped, the next option you can gain some height by going to a larger tire and rim.

Some bring the 5er to a good frame/spring shop and have a subframe built and installed between the axles and Springs.

Stole this info from another site I frequent

Hope something helps

Putting a drop pin box on (pin box with a greater drop distance than the one you currently have) will raise the framing higher to clear the bed rails

If I raise the framing won't it throw the trailer out of level same as raising the hitch?
I raised the hitch 2 inches and it made a world of difference. I think it will work. I will try it Saturday. The trailer is only an 1 1/2" out of level measuring it and 1/2 a degree out reading the level system. I think I can live with that.

Make sure you Air the bag up to the arrows as well... I have a 3905 and a 2011 ram 3500 as well and rides almost level with 8" of bed clearance..it's just a tad nose high (1") just for water tank and cargo weight

Took it out today for a test and all is good. Plenty of clearance for turning and it pulled great with the new Ram 3500 DRW. I really like the new Curt hitch it hooks and unhooks a thousand times better than my Pullrite Slider.

Believe me it can hit the bed rails. Both sides of my rails are bent. Flange where pin box mounts is so far down that past 50%angle it will strike bed. This is on an o8 33' Denali. I really dont think dutchman built fifth wheels to damage trucks. But i just dont know. I have never destroyed anything on purpose and just dont know how to fix it. Does anyone have a direct # to Dutchman service dept. not a dealer ? Any help would be muchly appreciated
