Let's talk about HOW we tow and with what truck.....

We tow with a 2010 5.4 F150 Supercrew with the Max Tow package, rated for 11,100 pounds towing capacity.
The GVW for the truck at "only" 1768 pounds challenges us when the tongue weight for our TT is already 960, but it seems to tow just fine.
We are adding a set of 1,000 to 2,000 pound bags to the rear axle for an upcoming 8,000 mile, three month trip. We also opted for the on board compressor so that we can dial up any pressure we want with the digital remote...from the cab or standing by the truck when we get all hooked up.....just what I need, one more remote, the wife says!.....still cool though!
The TT is the Denali 289 RK with the Luxury and Mountain packages....dry weight 7,600 ....

Re: Let's talk about HOW we tow and with what truck.....

Ok! :-)

36' 12k lb Colorado 320BS-FW with 2000 Dodge Cummins. The truck does great with Goerend trans and PacBrake EB. Just got back from Yosemite tonight in fact. The old girl averaged a little over 10mpg in and out of the valley on 120 and 15mpg on the flats. Just wish it had a bigger back seat.

I went with the AirLift 5000's and Load Controller II. Nice to be able to adjust on the fly.

I have to say the exhaust brake is the best thing I've added to the truck!

Re: Let's talk about HOW we tow and with what truck.....

2012 311BH, about 8000# dry with a 2000# CCC. I use a WDH with 1200# bars and picked up reese dual cams for sway control. I tow with a 2011 F-350 SB diesel. Setup is probably overkill for the trailer but I wasn't sure if I was going to get a 5er or not when I bought the truck. I needed that truck for the race car trailer that I recently sold anyway.

Re: Let's talk about HOW we tow and with what truck.....

Just got a new F250 with the diesel option and will be pulling a Denali 289RK. Should have plenty of power to get me through the mountains.

Re: Let's talk about HOW we tow and with what truck.....

That's the way to do it...post some pix
my last truck was a 1/2 ton GMC with a 5.7, though it was a fantastic truck it was under powered towing a 28ft Jayco TT...
Looking forward to towing with my new rig, I take delivery on my new fiver next week

Re: Let's talk about HOW we tow and with what truck.....

2012 Komfort FFL 3650, weight 14348, hitch wt 2250, attached to a B/W Companion hitch, pulled with a 2012 Ram 3500 dully diesel, average 11.8 to 12.3 pulling, 15.8 to 16.2 empty, rig is still fairly new so mpg should increase after about 30k or more. No complaints with truck so far, it actually will start pulling the fiver at idle when put in gear.

We tow with a 2009 Chevy Crew Cab 2500HD with a Duramax and Allison Transmission. It doesn't even think our 2010 Dutchmen Lite 25C-GS is back there.

Giorgio,
I tow the same trailer with my F150 with the 5.4 ......you have PLENTY of truck there, believe me! There are times I wish I had more truck, but 95% of the time, I am cruising in overdrive or in 6th gear....it's the hills that cause me to be at 3,500 rpm sometimes.

Re: Let's talk about HOW we tow and with what truck.....

We are towing our Denali 270FK (7,200 lbs dry) with a 2011 Ram Crew Cab 5.7 Hemi gas V-8. The truck is rated for just under 10,000 lbs....that might be a bit optimistic up a steep grade. The trade off is that this truck is our family sedan and it rides better than some of the other heavier duty trucks. We've only pulled the 270FK once and time will tell if we made the right choice......we are retiring and a big new truck is not in the budget!

Re: Let's talk about HOW we tow and with what truck.....

Bob, you can probably get away with that truck. The biggest issue I have with gas trucks for towing is the mileage. Camping is already plenty expensive and I like the 22.5 L/100km I get with the diesel (although I bought my truck originally to tow a race car and possibly thought I might get a 5th wheel down the road). ALthough, towing the 311 I am glad I have lots of truck as even with the reese dual cam sway control, I get some movement back there. I like that my truck is almost the same weight as the trailer itself. Makes me feel confident, especially given the camper roof is 11'+ off the ground!

Re: Let's talk about HOW we tow and with what truck.....

We are towing a Kodiak 22' hybrid- Max tow weight 3850 lbs, tow vehicle is a Chwvy Blazer, v6 w max tow capacity of about 5500 lbs. mileage is about 14 on the flat at 1600 rpm, up hills in 3rd at 2100 mileage drops to 10. Would enjoy any feedback on ways to increase mpg, K&N, chips, more free fliw exhaust and mufflers, etc, thanks

We are pulling our 28 Foot Dutchmen Sport 6400 lbs dry with 1500 Ram Hemi Pushing 420 Hp. Reese WDH. Looking at Dual Cam Sway Control just for those little surprises that catch you out now and again...

Re: Let's talk about HOW we tow and with what truck.....

John in Tucson heard good things about the things your thinking of doing to the Blazer... We drive a stock 09 V-6 Nissan Frontier...and our trailer is almost identical in weight to yours. We have an extended warranty so chipping the engine would void the warranty. But I am sure thinking of a free flow exhaust and cold air in take....but don' tell my wife

Re: Let's talk about HOW we tow and with what truck.....

2010 Dutchmen 28G-GS. Have towed with 2003 Dodge 2500 Crew Cab 5.9 Cummins, 2010 F-250 Super Duty Crew Cab 5.4 Gas (the one in the signature photo), 2003 Ford Excursion 6.0 PSD, and now currently 2003 GMC Yukon XL 8.1L gas w/4.10 gears. All did well - Dodge was least comfortable for family, Excursion was the least comfortable for driver, F-250 only had 26 gallon tank - very happy with Yukon. Took it to Florida in April and everybody was happy.

Re: Let's talk about HOW we tow and with what truck.....

I towed a Dutchmen 276RBS with 2011 GMC 1/2 ton with the 6.2 liter engine from Edmonton to Bragg Creek this year. I got 26.94l/100km (8.731mi/US gal). The truck did good on the hills and there were a lot as I took Highway 22 from Caroline down.

Re: Let's talk about HOW we tow and with what truck.....

Looks like you made a good choice there Glenn & Cheryle. I here a lot of good things about those Ecoboost 150s. A friend of mine has one & loves it. He's always been a Chevy guy but glad he made the change.
