Re: Let's talk about HOW we tow and with what truck.....

We tow with a 2005 Dodge Durango 5.7 Hemi, EZ Lift Bars with sway control, and just recently added Monroe Sensormatic load adjusters. My wife always freaks out when it starts bouncing sometimes going down the road, so she ordered these, and my friend put them on about a week ago. I think the shocks might have just been bad but who knows, hey if it stops her from freaking out while I'm driving, it will still be worth it, lol. Today will be it's first test, heading out here in about an hour and half to go camping at our state park just down the road.

Re: Let's talk about HOW we tow and with what truck.....

Tomorrow I am going about an hour and half away with my 1994 Dutchman 26ft. I am pulling it with my 2011 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab Z71. I have never pulled a camper that far and don't forsee any problems. I don't have any sway control and have been thinking about it. I guess this will be the first test to see how it goes. Any pointers?

I just recently bought a 2012 F150 Ecoboost and I have to say that it has a lot of pull in her! I'm only towing the 2012 Aerolite 285BHGS that weighs 4900 lbs dry but with everything loaded I'm around 6500+ and I barely notice its back there. This truck has the built in sway control and I have since taken mine off the trailer cause it works so well! I use cruise and she maintains the set speed up the steep hills with no problem. I traveled from Newfoundland to Maine getting 22.5 L/100, that's with a truck not yet broke in either, she only has 2500km yet. Two thumbs up for this truck!!

What model? XLT? Lariat? Did you get the HD Max Payload and Max Tow Packages? Inquiring minds want to know...

Dave.

Of course, I have the XLT crew cab with the XTR package, Max Tow package and the 3.73 gears. I couldn't wait to get the HD Max Payload as it was in the middle of my Vacation that I bought this truck. I'm very unlikely to overload with the setup I have(1729lb max. payload), there's only 3 of us and we don't travel with everything but the kitchen sink!!LOL! The Max HD Package is a serious option that "one" must consider though!

Re: Let's talk about HOW we tow and with what truck.....

Thanks for the info! Since I use my current 2008 2500HD for more than just towing, I will be looking at the HD package. Mulch, stone, wood, etc. Landscaping is my hobby.... I like the extra payload capacity.

We traded an "06" Jayco 31' for a 2013 24' Kodiak. At 7,400 lbs. dry, the Jayco was quite a handful with the 2003 1/2 ton Suburban (190,00 miles ). The Kodiak weighs in @ 4,950. It's amazing the difference.

Heading out next Thursday for a couple nights. I'm curious to see what kind of mileage we get.

Tow an '03 18 ft Tracker Targa deep V boat, or our '12 Dutchmen 814RB, with an '11 Dodge 1500 with a Hemi engine.

The boat is heavier, and we always thought it towed well, but the TT has electric brakes and that makes a really nice difference - that was an option on the boat trailer ten years ago that we didn't think we needed, but now wish we had.

We tow a voltage 3200 with a short bed crew cab '09 Ford 6.4 diesel. It seems like a perfect combination and tows great. We pop out around 12mpg at 60mph until I load a couple near 1000 pound motorcycles in the back then it drops to near 10 to 10.5. What a great towing 5er.
Of course the engine has been "tuned" to run better.

Our Tugger

Doing a little test on uploading pic's to the forum this morning.
Here's a pic of our Tugger.
09 Chevy 3500HD CC LB Dually, Duramax (modded), Alison Trans, Drawtite Signature Series flush mt 5th wheel, Firestone air bags, Truxedo bed cover (for when the 5'er is not attached), 80 gal Alum Aux tank in front of bed with elect pump/solenoid transfer, sw and gauge on dash.

Banks DPF back Exaust, Intake, Inter-cooler, Hotside turbo tube, Tuner, IQ, Pirometer, BD Left exhaust manifold, (Still using the DPF).

(Not sure it was worth the $$$$ for the Banks stuff).

I've always been a Ford man, first Chevy, I run the tuner on the econ setting, good power w/Duramax, doing a good job so far.

Thumbs up

Beautiful truck...I remeber the day when 3 on the tree was ahead of it' s time and a " wonder bar" radio was an expensive option...what ever happened to the small " elephant ear" windows attched to the front door windows....power windows were only in Cadillacs and Lincoln's.

Boy times have changed

Hey Coops, Thanks for the blip! Ya! Good ole day's! I use to fill up my first one at 28 cents/gal. Opp's Tel'en my age here. First was a 54 F100 stepside. Six banger didn't last long as I had an old Ford Big Block laying around. Thing wound up with and overbore and 390 crank for about 396 cubes and a Ford 406 tri-power manifold and carbs sett'en on top that I had picked up cheap because someone had tried to port it out and ground a hole in a runner. Stuck a T85 overdrive trans behind her with a electric shift button on the floor stick to lock the overdrive in and out.

Fun Truck!! Ya, the good ole days!! -------

We tow a Voltage 3200 with a Can-Am Spyder in the back. I have an 04 Silverado 2500 HD with the Duramax. Also have a Bully Dog downloaded, 5" Magnaflow exhaust, 5000 lb bags. I have never had a problem towing mountains. Typically we have 30 gallons of fuel on board for the generator.

09 F350 6.4, used to tow a 2011 cyclone 300c, traded that in for the Infinity 3750. Towing is better with less chucking on the infinity. poor mileage as my truck is not tuned and I drive 70 on the interstate so it is about 7.5 mpg with the quad cab, 4x4 and big tires.
