Andersen Ultimate Fifth Wheel Hitch? or NO!

I am brand new to Fifth wheel pulling. As a matter of fact, I haven't pulled yet. The Fifth wheel is purchased. We have an 2012 F350 DRW we are getting ready to finalize. NOW I am looking for the correct Fifth Wheel Hitch. I have seen some debate about this product, but really I think I am going to pull the string on it next week. It is rated for 24000 and 4500 pin weight. I like the low weight. BUT, value opinions especially those that have used it.

SO, let the flood gates begin!

Well, if you have the OEM hitch prep kit like I do in my F-450... I'm partial to the B&W Companion, which pops right into the 4 mounting holes in the bed.

That said... my friend has the Andersen set up in his Dodge RAM, and he loves it. Has worked flawlessly over the past 3 years for him with no issues whatsoever.

I'm also a fan of the B&W companion in my 2011 F350.

From what I've been able to gather from numerous discussions on several RV forums: Those who have them, love them; Those who have never had them, hate them.

Andersen Hitch

I have one and it works very well. Smooth ride and have not regretted getting one. Cheaper than a regular set up and very convenient. I have never towed with a traditional hitch for comparison sake. I have the steel unit. One thing to remember is that you will be in and out of your truck bed torquing the bolts after initial hitch up. Works for me but if you can give both a try see which one suits you better.

I prefer the Anderson over traditional if for no other reason the weight. I don't leave mine in the bed all the time and I have the light weight one. Back surgery in 2017 solidified my decision on that. Me or the boss can do it and the tightening is only done once when installed so no big deal. If you remove it yes you do have to torque down once again but the weight advantage is the main reason for me, hands down.

I have one and I am super happy with it. Low weight, easy install, low price, and Andersen customer service is great. Can't go wrong with it.

I'm a believer in Reese hitches and have the 30,000 lb installed in my Silverado DRW 1 ton.

Easy to lift out. I have a Highway Products aluminum bed, the hitch base is below the bed floor, with flaps that fold over when the hitch is out.

I started with a Reese hitch when I had a Ford F-250 but switched to the Andersen hitch when I bought our Ram 2500. I’ll never go back. The Andersen hitch is the only way to go.

I have borrowed a Demco from a buddy to pick up the Fifth wheel. It was kind of a pain to use. Some of that was my inexperience. I am ordering the Andersen tomorrow.

Whoa... I remember that article. That poor guy got death threats. Guess he really loved his family. I think he paid to fix it but he makes a hell of a hitch.

I've had the B&W companion, Reese, and now the Andersen. My favorite by far is the Andersen mainly because of the weight since I remove my hitch a lot. No squeaks, rattles, or banging like with the traditional style Reese hitch. The Companion is also very quiet but a lot heavier. Also, I don't know if anyone else has this problem, but when I had my Companion, I wasn't able to use the teflon ring because there wasn't enough clearance. The jaws would not close because they were hitting the lip on the bottom of the pin. I had to use grease.
