2015 Heavy Duty Towing Test
Found this interesting article. Nice to see some real world towing numbers. Only thing is why can't they test apples to apples.?

Still not going to trade my Ford for a GMC. 
Just don't understand why the didn't test a Ford dually with a 3.73 rear end. 
I don't think it would have changed the out come but the 1/4 mile times would have been a little faster.

Each of the three trucks in our comparison were supposed to be duallies but unfortunately Ford sent a single-wheel and said, “take it or leave it.”

Yeah, well.....
I'll keep my Ford for now. I really think we will upgrade to a dually, but only after we sell our house to downsize. In the meantime, our '08 Ford works well for us. At this point, 10,000+K miles in towing, average 10.5 MPG. Works for us!

I highly doubt this test will sway anyone's brand allegiance. I will revisit this article in 15 years, when I may be able to afford that sweet GMC.

The wife and I are former Blue Bird Wanderlodge owners. We still go to the rallys in our Voltage. Two weeks ago a Wanderlodge broke down on the highway in the hills of Georgia 6 miles from the rally. I was asked to tow him in... okay I said. Took my 2014 Dodge 3500 DRW and did just that. The bus.... 36k dead weight 6 miles up and down hills. I'll keep my Dodge thank you. Bus owner was happy too.... no tow bill
Okay before I'm asked let me add this... yes he had air brakes with an aux on board compressor. He did all the breaking. I towed him... he stopped us.

Another thing not mentioned in the article is that Ford is overdue for a model overhaul on that truck. Dodge and GM did theirs in the past 2 years.
One thing for sure... I won't be buying a new hauler any time soon at those prices.  The cost more than my first two houses... combined!

Yea I was at the Pomona RV show a couple of weeks ago & Ford tow vehicles were there. They had a 2015 with just about the same equipment that my 2012 has. The big difference was the MSRP. It was over 10 grand higher than mine was. I through inflation was running about 2% per year. That would have been about a 4 grand increase over three years not $10k.

Howdy All,
Buy a used HDT, for a LOT less then you'll pay for a used let alone new pickup and you'll have all the tow vehicle you'll ever need. Like I have said in other posts, wish I had done it may years ago, enjoying the heck out of it now.

Only problem besides needing a class A license for it is we use our F-350 as a truck. That is it's my wifes work vehicle. She needs a vehicle with a bed to haul items for work. So a HDT wouldn't work for us at all.

Howdy DesertRat,
An HDT is NOT for everyone but for MANY it is the over all best towing solution. As to the need for a class A license, it depends on the State you live in. Here in the "Peoples Republik of Washington", "if" you jump through the hoops and get your truck registered as a "motor home" you don't need a class A license, your regular drivers license is all that is needed. My "motor home" is cheaper to insure and plate then my Dodge one ton dually is.

In California you would need need a Class A. All "pickup trucks" pay commercial license fees even if it's not being used to make $ with. So my 2012 F-350 was $675.00 for this years tags. That's even being a personal vehicle.

Born in CA, been back once to visit... Only state with worse taxes might be NY.
In NC I register my 1996 F350 with 20,000# plates for less than $300 a year. No CDL until you go over 26,000 GVW.
