Fixing Screws that Pull Out

Probably the biggest issue with RV quality is the way things are fastened together. And, towing down the road things come loose and fall apart. This has been an ongoing issue for me and each time I do a repair I attempt to fix it so it will NEVER come apart again unless I want it to. Today I spent some time remounting a window valance that pulled loose.

The screws were not threaded into any solid structure and only into the wallboard, so the usual options are put the screw into a different place or use a larger diameter screw.

My preference is to use screw in drywall anchors like the one shown here. But when you do this you need to make sure you use anchors that are shorter than the depth of the RV wall cavities. You also have to use a different length screw than the ones that come with the anchors as they are much longer and may go through the other side of your wall. Try and use a screw the same diameter as the original but close to the exact same length as the plastic screw in anchor. But not any longer! These anchors give you a secure connection that will not work loose.

Reinstalled and better than new.

Dutchman RVs..............just another dam in the crick of life haha

I lost count of how many little repairs I have had to make on a not quite 2 year old trailer. Ughhh.

I can only imagine the poor RV owner that is not rich and has no skills.

My wife got a tour over the weekend of a nice, high end diesel pusher over this past weekend while we were camping.

She asks the owner if they have had any issues in the two years they have owned it. The owner says RV stands for Ruined Vacation!

Thought that was pretty good.

Also consider using jack nuts. I find they work fantastic with trailers thin wall material. As the last for long period if time.

I have also used Gorilla Glue to put screws back in.

Just for the record... ALL RVs are hand-built in metal sheds that used to be someone's backyard.
