Refrigerator operation

We have the Norcold double wide fridge in our unit. What we have been doing is setting it to its lowest temp when set up and then shutting it off while we travel to the next place.

Some where I had read (I think) that you could not operate them while in motion but our neighbors just got a new motorhome with the same fridge and were told there was no problem running it while traveling.

The owners manual seems kind of wishy-washy on the topic. It one spot it says the fridge has to be within 3 degrees side to side and 6 degrees front to back with warnings of damage if not in that range. In another it says while it should be level when stopped performance during travel is not usually effected.

My question then is do you all shut them off when traveling or leave them running on LP gas?

I clearly do not want to damage the fridge but I would really like to keep stuff cold when traveling, especially on those hot days.

On the two RVs I have had & have I run on propane while on the road (transporting)

We have had 3 new TT or TH in the past 7 years and a PU with 3 way fridge for over 20 years - we always ran fridge on propane while traveling!

The only thing that you really need to worry about is getting the rig reasonably level when you park for any lenght of time.

Thanks for the responses! That will make things so much easier not having to worry about it being turned off and food potentially spoiling.

I have the same trailer (albeit a 2012 model) with the same fridge as you. If we are just traveling a couple of hours or so, we turn it off to save propane. But if the trip is longer we run it on propane and it works great.
